The Coast Guard's mission is to provide maritime safety, protect our coasts and waterways, respond to natural disasters, and maintain public order at sea. The helicopter has been used several times throughout history for Search and Rescue missions such as during Operation Neptune’s Spear (1996), Hurricane Katrina (2005), Earthquake Christchurch (2006), tsunami aftermath (2007)and various other incidents. Corsicana, Texas is an unincorporated community in Grayson County, Texas. It lies on the Brazos River, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Austin and 10 miles (16 km) west of Dallas. The population was 1,663 at the 2010 census. Corsicana began as a rough-hewn settlement on the banks of the Brazos in 1875. A post office was established at Corsicana in 1881, and it grew quickly into a small town with a population of around 350 people by 1907. The railroad arrived in Corsicana in 1912, and it quickly became one of the largest towns along the line. In 1930, when Texans extended their statehood to include portions of Grayson and Hardin counties, Corsicana became part of what is now Travis County. The discovery of oil near Fort Worth led to increased development in Corsicana over the years; today it is one of TexarkANA's most important oil centers.
