Deer Park is a small town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,988 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name comes from nearby Deer Creek and Parkes Mills Lake. The first settler in Deer Park was James M. Norris whoesteaded land on what is now the southeast side of town in 1876. The city ofDallas was founded in 1907 by developers John Hargrave and George Waddell, both residents of Garland. In 1911, the property that would become Deer Park was annexed to Dallas and became an inner-city neighborhood known as "The Parks". In 1945, when Arlington Heights was created within Dallas County, Deer Park became its southernmost suburb and remains so today with a population of just over 1,000 people. In 1971, deer were reintroduced to much of North Texas after being removed from most areas due to hunting regulations put into place during the late 1800s foronial ranching operations - which had depended upon large populations of deer for food and transportation (in addition to providing cover for hunters). As a result of this reintroduction effort and other efforts by local officials over time to improve public safety including installation of stoplights at intersections in the town center as well as new traffic signals near schools and parks; deer densities gradually decreased throughout most of North Texas but persisted slightly more in central East Texas until they completely vanished from that area about 10 years ago due primarily to hunting pressure (although 1924 legislation resulted in their return to certain areas east of Interstate 20). Deer Park, Texas is a small town in Zapata County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settler in Deer Park was J.W. McDonald and his wife Eliza (née Brown). They arrived on horseback from Missouri on July 3, 1873. A post office was established at Deer Park on November 12, 1876. The name "Deer Park" was chosen for the abundance of deer that roamed the area. The town began to grow rapidly after it was platted in 1881 by Wm & Mable Hogg with land they acquired from Jesse Hill and others who had been condemning land around Fort Worth for sale to settlers."When they plat this piece of ground they knew how important it would be as there were no roads then and people had to go all the way down to Austin or San Antonio to get anything done." In 1893 a railroad depot and grain elevator were built in Deer Park by the Great Northern Railway Company under the direction of Colonel George Meeker Jr.. A creamery followed in 1907 and a woolen mill followed in 1909. It wasn't until 1930 when oil exploration started nearby that Deer Park really started becoming interested in its oil potential as wells were drilled soon thereafter (the first well being drilled by Texaco). In 1936 an expressway connecting Dallas andTemple Freeway was completed running through Deer Park making it one of the busiest towns within easy driving distance of both cities. In 1949 two schools opened - one for grade school students and one for high school students which helped increase enrollment at local high schools over time which has continued into today (+700+ kids currently attending school here!). As more families moved into town during those years many businesses opened up including an ice cream parlor, restaurant, gas station/convenience store- all still extant today! In fact there are now more businesses than residents living here so much so that city officials have decided to start annexing some areas back into town so that people can actually call their own hometown! With such a vibrant history it's no wonder why Deer Park is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
