Donna, Texas is a small town located in the heart of the United States. The population was 5,811 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded by Spanish settlers in 1836 and named for José de Donna. In 1907, it became a municipio (municipality) within the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. On February 14, 1912, it seceded from Tamaulipas and became an independent county within Texas under its own government. On November 6, 1920, it lost its independence when it merged with Johnson County to form Dallas County. In 1930 it became a city and remains so today. The first military deployment occurred on July 26th 1944 when 101st Airborne Division Air Assault Troopers were sent to fight in World War II against Nazi Germany at Bastogne Ridge near Monschau in Belgium.
