Duncanville is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, about 20 miles northeast of Austin. The population was 1,869 at the 2000 census. Duncanville was founded in 1879 by George W. Duncan and his family. It is named after Duncan's father-in-law, John Fenton, who settled in the area in 1854. In 1907, the town had a post office and two commercial buildings. In 1916, the first high school opened in the town and it served as a middle school until 1984 when it became Duncanville High School. The town's only other business structure was an old flour mill that closed in 1980. In recent years, there has been significant development taking place within the boundaries of the town limits including: • A new shopping center called "Duncanville Mall"opened its doors on December 2nd 2009 adjacent to IHOP restaurant; • A new football stadium called "Duncanville Stadium"was completed on October 15th 2013 and seats over 10,000 people; • A new elementary school opened its doors on September 8th 2014;
On November 14, 1836, Duncanville was founded by James A. Duncan and his family. The town was named after the nearby Mount Pleasant Creek, which originates from a small stream that flows through the community. In 1839, Duncanville started to receive mail from Post Office in Houston and soon became an important stop on the wagon trail between Houston and Austin. In 1848, Duncanville had a schoolhouse built and in 1850 it also began receiving public services such as water supply and Streets & Highways Department. By 1860, Duncanville had a population of 50 residents and by 1870 it had grown to 100 people. The town continued to grow until 1907 when it reached its peak with a population of 300 people. Duncanville experienced several major changes during its time as a town - in 1928 it became an all-white town while Third Ward transitioned into blackmajority status; in 1961 the post office closed due to financial difficulties; in 1978 the first African American married within the community; in 1984 local businesses merged into one large company; finally, in 2007 census results showed that Duncanville's population has decreased significantly - today it has only 30 residents.
