Duncanville is a small town in the northeastern part of Texas, United States. The population was 1,702 at the 2010 census. Duncanville is located in Tyler County and is part of the Tyler–tooondale Micropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named after Duncan MacCallum, an American Civil War hero who fought with General John A. Austin's army in that conflict. In 1881, MacCallum donated land to the town for agricultural purposes. The first post office was established in 1882, and the first school opened in 1886. In 1907, Duncanville became one of the original towns in Tyler County when it was created from parts of Orange and Haskell counties. The population growth during this time led to increased development around town; by 1920, most of downtown had been built and most residents were living on or near its streets and public buildings. During World War II, Duncanville played an important role as a munitions production center forTyler Air Force Base (AFB). From 1942-1945, various factories produced munitions such as explosives and aircraft parts at AFB; many workers from Duncanville came to work there during that time period.
