On December 5, 1941, the United States of America was attacked by Japan. The air force was mobilized and dispatched to fight in the war. In Edinburg, Texas, on December 12th, 1942, a gift from the air force was given to a local family in memory of their loved ones who died in the attack. The gift was an airplane hangar and training simulator. The simulator is used today by students at the Air Force Academy to learn about fighter aircraft.

In 1918, the Texas Air National Guard's 154th Aero Squadron was mobilized to serve in World War I. In 1920, the squadron was redesignated as the 154th Observation Group. The group served in France during World War II and then flew strategic bombers over Japan during the war. After the war, the group disbanded and its members were reassigned to other units. However, a few members of the squadron continued to fly together until disbanding in 1957.

The USAF deployed gift history in 1947. The first Gift History Squadron was activated at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio on 14 Jan 1947 and assigned to the Air Forces Command. On 1 Mar 1947, the gift history program was redesignated as theAAF History Division. On 15 Jul 1948, Headquarters USAF activated a second gift history squadron at Far East Air Force Base, Philippines which was components of XXIV Bomber Command. The Far East Gift History Squadron operated from 15 Jul 1948 until itsactivation on 25 Jun 1951 when it became part of III Bomber Command. On 30 Sep 1952 Headquarters USAFactivated a third gift history squadron at Seymour Johnson AFB, North Carolina which was components of I Bomber Command. The Seymour Johnson Gift History Squadron operated from 30 Sep 1952 until itsactivation on 2 Feb 1955 when it became part of XII BomberCommand under HQ Ninth Air Force.
Edinburg, Texas is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a frontier outpost near the mouth of the San Marcos River in 1847 and developed into an agricultural center on the edge of what is now Johnson County. The first Post Office was established in 1851 and the first store opened in 1861. In 1865, Edinburg became part of Galveston County when it was organized from portions of Houston and Brazoria Counties. By 1870, Edinburg had a school and two churches. Growth slowed during World War II because there were no other places to produce munitions for the war effort; however, after 1945 Edinburg experienced significant growth due to its proximity to then-new weapon manufacturing plants and its status as an airbase for American forces in Southwest Asia. The city's rebirth came about with the opening of Edwards Air Force Base in 1997 which created new employment opportunities for locals and increased tourism; since then, Edinburg has seen continued growth both through annexations by other municipalities (such as Commerce City) and annexation by Houston itself (which has led to some tension between the two cities). Today, Edinburgo boasts more than 25 businesses including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Wells Fargo), restaurants (Wendy's restaurant chain), health clubs/spas (Camelback Springs Resort & Spa), pet stores (), homebuilders (), bars (), trade shows (). Edinburg is located in rural Hudspeth County, Texas. The town was founded by settlers in 1849 and named after the city of Edinburgh, Scotland. In the early years of the 20th century, Edinburg was an important agricultural center because it had a large flour mill and two sawmills. In 1916, the first electric light was installed in the town. By 1980, Edinburg had a population of about 1,500 people and was home to several businesses such as a grocery store and dry goods store.
