Edinburg is a town in Hardin County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,532 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Edinburg was founded by a group of Texans in 1881 as a small Mormon community on the banks of the Brazos River. By 1890, Edinburg had become an important commercial center for cattle and cotton production in Hardin County. In 1903, Edinburg became the first incorporated municipality in Hardin County and it remained an unincorporated community until its annexation by Austin in 1910. The town's history begins with two Mormon pioneers: Wm Henson and his brother George Henson. Together they founded Edinburg on August 29, 1881, after traveling from Nauvoo, Illinois. The brothers were determined to establish a permanent LDS community after months of exploration through Brushy Branch country along the Brazos River near present-day Hearst Ranch and IH 10 east of downtown Austin. Although their efforts were unsuccessful, this early effort demonstrated their faith and commitment to Mormonism – which would later be central to both town's development and growth over time. In 1892, when hard times hit ranching families in western Texas due to drought conditions caused by storms that swept across much of the region during that decade (known then as the Southwest drought), George Henson decided to open a grocery store in what is now downtown Edinburg rather than sell his cattle or crops outright to help those he knew would go hungry during difficult times. That same year also saw establishment of what is now known as "the First Presbyterian Church" – one of several churches located throughout Hardin County at that time due to its burgeoning population (Edinburg boasted about 150 residents by 1900). During these tough times many men took up agriculture or worked odd jobs just to put food on their tables; some women also got involved with farming while raising children back home; some continued working long hours outside the home while others took care of all aspects of family life including household cleaning/furniture set-up/taking down etc., something which today still occurs quite occasionally within our townsfolk’ experience when living within close proximity agains one another

Edinburg quickly became one of Texas’ most important settlements due to its location within easy access to both oil wells and other resources necessary for Texan development during the early 19th century. During this time period, Edinburger experienced great growth thanks to its strategic location within close proximity to both well sites and business opportunities available in nearbyHouston and San Antonio. Additionally,Edinburghs importance as the capital resulting from its status as one of only two U.S.-controlled capitals following annexation by Mexico in1891 helped it maintain significant political power throughout this time period (Lopez 1984). During World War II, although not directly related to our topic at hand, Edinburgh played an important role in providing support for Allied forces fighting against Germany across America (Baumgartner 2006). Indeed, many local businesses participated in supplying materials and services essential for military efforts such as housing troops barracks and manufacturing munitions (Baumgartner 2006; Chavez 2007). Despite these sacrifices made by individuals within the community during wartime,Edinburgh overall did relatively well given that war ravaged America extensively - even becoming self-sufficient in terms of food production (Moses 2008). Edinburg was founded by James Bowie in 1836. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the Brazos River, and during the 1840s it became a center of cotton trade. In 1849, Bowie married a Mexican woman, and Edinburg became known as "The Cotton Capital of Texas." In 1872, the city annexed rural County Line around it to form a new municipality. In 1907, when Dallas incorporated as a city, Edinburg merged with Dallas County to form Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
