Euless is a small town in Texas on the border with Mexico. The population was 4,581 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Eustis County. The town of Euless started off as a Mormon settlement in1881, and was named after Elijah Smith, an early settler in this area. In 1911, the community added an post office and name change to honor Sarah Alice Pryor Ewing (1873-1959), one of Texas' most well-known women politicians. Euless has always been a popular tourist destination for its historic buildings and lush countryside. The Museum of Nature and Science is located in downtown Euless and features exhibits about local plants, animals, minerals and water resources from around the world. In 2009, when USS Constellation sailed into Singapore for their first ever international trip as part of IYS, they took on board two large boxes filled with donated items from local businesses and individuals. These donations included knives, bowls, cups and spoons made from recycled materials, blankets and towels made from polyester fiberfill instead of synthetic thread or nylon fibresools used in some processed foods products., alarm clocks equipped with digital timers so they can be personalized by sailors on-board ship (a first for any navy vessel), books about maritime life written by retired sailors including one who served aboard USS Constitution during the War Between The States Most recently in 2018 USS Theodore Roosevelt sailed into Bahrain to participate in The Bahrain Maritime Festival and took home several donated items including Flagship Table cloths which are then auctioned off at various events throughout Bahrain until they reach their final destination - A museum! The town was founded in 1879 by John Euler and his family as a small trading post on the San Jacinto River. In 1916, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 514. It adopted its current name in 1957 after John A. Euless, Sr., one of the original settlers and mayor of nearby Westville. In 1969, Euless became home to the first high school in Midland County and opened its doors to students from all over Midland County.
