In 1865, local citizens voted to make handgun ownership illegal without a permit and remain at that until 1870 when they again passed a law allowing handguns with one exception – shotguns which could only be owned by farmers or hunters 4 years old or older. This law was repealed in 1925 after people started owning handguns for protection purposes instead of hunting/farming purposes.

Flower Mound is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Flower Mound was founded by Captain James Hogg in 1836 as a Cherokee Indian trading post on the banks of the Colorado River. Captain James Hogg and his family were pioneer settlers in Hudspeth County and founded what is now Flower Mound on May 12, 1836. By 1840, some eighty families lived in Flower Mound. The first school was built on the present site of First Baptist Church in 1842. In 1865, a post office was established at Flower Mound with Wm. Nesbit as its first ranger; it remained open until 1907. In 1876–77, Governor Sam Houston authorized an appropriation for a public road from Austin to San Antonio which became known as the Sam Houston Highway or State Road 8S (later Interstate 35W). This new highway connected present day Flower Mound with Clear Lake and other settlements east of San Antonio along its current routing including Sweetwater Creek and White Sands Hill near Fredericksburg National Military Park today’s Johnston Heights neighborhood east of I-35W at FM 627 (now Loop 610) exit 191A/190B just south of downtown Austin! The first courthouse building erected in Flower Mound was called “Fulton Hall” after Major General William Fulton who donated land for it in 1887 when he bought adjacent land to build Clear Lake Dam across from Fort Worth also known as “Fulton Prairie” today’s Midtown East side area zoned for commercial use only! Hudspeth County Judge J[ames] A[braham] L[ester], one of early county commissioners and future U [S] Senator moved to this community from nearby Willow Grove about 1912 when he decided to make this his permanent home because he could no longer serve on hilly farmlands that required long days outdoors working with horses & mules etc…. Garden City would eventually replace Blossom Hill within 3 miles (5 km) northeast of original site but due to floods following severe storms during Hurricane Agnes night OF 1978 most all evidence has been destroyed so no full account can be given here….. The Flower Mound region in Texas was settled by the Caddo and Wichita people in the late 18th century. The area became known as the Flower Mound District after a local chief, meaning "place of flowers." The first churches were built here in the 1830s, and early settlers purchased land for farming and development around them. In 1854, Texas Rangers discovered an ancient city-state buried under layers of earth at what is now Flower Mound. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation ordering all Confederate soldiers to face trial for treason if they had been living in or near City State when it fell. As a result, many of these men were rounded up and brought to Flower Mound to be tried. There is still evidence of this event at the old jail today. By 1870, most of the residents had left for other parts of Texas due to extreme drought conditions that had struck much of the state hard. However, some families decided to stay put and continue farming around their new town site. By 1886, Flower Mound had become an important center for trade between eastern Texans and Native Americans living nearby on the Wichita River Valley. This strategic location allowed traders to bring goods such as corn, beans, tobacco, horses and cattle back intoDeep East Texas during strong El Niño years while avoiding potential conflicts with Apache Indians living on adjacent lands.
