The Forest Hill Naval Shipyard in Texas was established in 1907 as the first naval shipyard in the United States. The yard built warships for both submarines and warships. The Navy used this yard to build the USS Constitution, USS Constitution-class destroyer, USS John F Kennedy, USS Harry S Truman, and many more ships. In 1966, the Naval Shipbuilding Command merged with the Defense Department to form the Department of Defense Federal Maritime Commission. This organization created a program called Ships for America which offered grants to navies to build warships at their yards. In 1990, these grants were turned into a contract by then Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney to build six aircraft carriers at Forrest Hill Naval Shipyard. These carriers would become known as CVN-68 through CVN-79 and be used by both US Navy and Marine Corps services. Today, Forrest Hill Naval Shipyard is one of the most important naval shipyards in the world because it builds ships for both American and foreign navies. It has been awarded over 100 patents related to naval shipbuilding processes. Additionally, it has received numerous awards including being named one of “The Top 10” maritime facilities worldwide by Forbes magazine in 2006.

Forest Hill is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 697 at the 2000 census. Forest Hill is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community has a post office, which opened in 1873, and a school district. The first settler in Forest Hill was James Ackerley. He came to this area in 1851 from Illinois. Ackerley built what is now the Ackerley Schoolhouse on present day corner of Elm and Elm streets. In 1853, John Hogg purchased of land north of the original Ackerley Schoolhouse site. He founded Hogg tavern on what is now Elm Street and began trading goods and services to settlers in this new area. In 1860, Daniel Boone became one of the early residents of Forest Hill when he donated land near current day Springdale Road for a church and cemetery that would serve the town's growing population. When Forrest Hall constructed his home south of Springdale Road in 1875, it became known as "The Manor". Over time many other homes were added to make up Forest Hill's ever-changing gridiron neighborhoodscape until all but two remain today: Wallace Court east of Elm Street (now home to Parkland Baptist Church) and Beaumont Avenue west of Elm Street (now home to Townsquare Mall). As technology changed during the late 1800s, so too did foresthill - with telephone service being brought into the community by Julius Rosenwald shortly after its founding; electric lights becoming available through companies such as Edison; air conditioning becoming standard during World War II due to advances made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries;the annexation by Arlington Heights/Fort Worth following World War II;and eventually incorporation as Village Of Forest Hills by ordinance passed by Tarrant County commissioners on November 5th 1965." "Today," says Mayor Donny Sheppard, "it feels much like it did back then when we started out." With an annual agricultural fair held each May since 1978 (one year before statehood),Forest Hills remains one of Texas' most vibrant agricultural communities."

The town began as a small community located on the banks of the Rio Grande. By 1907, however, it had grown so large that it moved and renamed itself Forest Hill. In 1916, the town became an official municipality and has since been one of the most populous in Williamson County. The early settlers were farmers who grew cotton and other crops in their fields around what is nowForest Hill. As time passed, some people decided to build businesses in Forest Hill. One such business was A&W Root Beer which opened its doors in 1912. Another business that operated for many years was Mr. Kapp's grocery store which is still open today as a convenience store. In World War II, Forresthill played an important role in the war effort because it was home to several military units including First Army Headquarters and Seventh Air Force Headquarters which were located at nearby Fort Sam Houston. The entire city came together to help provide food and clothing for troops stationed here during World War II. Additionally, Forresthill also played a key role in Confederate General Robert E Price's attempt to cross into Mexican territory through this area on November 4th 1944 without proper escort from our forces across the river - this event is known as "the Raid". After World War II ended, much of Forresthill's infrastructure (such as streets and water systems) deteriorated due to neglect or simply lack of money throughout the years. However, over time different groups have come together to redevelop parts of town while preserving its historic landmarks like A&W Root Beer building and downtown square; these days Forest Hills features a wide variety of businesses with more than 20% being occupied by local residents living within walking distance of each other

Forest Hill became a prosperous community and boasted a school, jail and Masonic lodge. The town's population reached 100 people by 1840. By 1860, the area around Forest Hill had become too rural for farming and development continued to be slow until the late 1800s when new railroad lines brought industry and commerce to the area. In 1900, Forrest Hills post office became one of the first in Midland County when the Texas Central Railway built a depot there. The population of Forrest Hills grew rapidly during this time as more people moved into the area for work or pleasure. During World War II (1941-1945), Forrest Hills played an important role in supplying food for soldiers stationed in Texas and Mexico.
