The Forney Municipal Airport is located in Forney and serves general aviation as well as air travel to nearby Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. The town was founded by J.B. Forney in 1876 and was named after him. The first post office was opened in 1877 and the town has since had two churches (one Episcopalian, one Methodist), two schools (grades K-12), four stores (including a hardware store and an ice cream parlor), a barber shop and several restaurants including several Mexican restaurants all served by drivers on bicycles or cars with trailers for delivery to homes or businesses. In addition, there are several Service Department agencies including a water softener company that supplies local municipalities with water five miles away from their municipal lines and another service department responsible for oil changes, brakes job done on cars etc., powerlinings done on highways around town on request and streetlights lit when needed along with many other tasks that need attention these days like First Precinct Constable duty during Daylight Saving Time; special events such as rodeos which attract thousands of people each year; firefights that have occurred almost annually between law enforcement agencies during high school basketball tournaments held at various venues throughout the area; small businesses like Cain's Barber Shop where IHOP takes up most of the space have long been staples of life hereabouts; Monday night Madness - golfers from all over converge here for Round Rock Country Club-sponsored golf tournaments usually attracting eighteen or more players from across the Lone Star State each year...virtually everything needed to live successfully is close at hand if you just happen to be interested in it: jobs available through welding companies within minutes of downtown Forney; access to quality education abundant both inside and outside Ofc.; numerous lakes & streams within easy driving distance should any family looking for country living decide they want to move hereabouts...the greets one upon arrival these day after years of planning boiling down really only to say "Welcome To Our Town!"

Forney is a town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Forney were James and Nancy Forney who came to the area in 1849. They founded a trading post on the Brazos River. In 1852, they moved their post to what is now known as downtown Forney. The post stood until it was destroyed by a fire in 1903. In 1857, John Hanchett settled in the area and built a cotton gin and mill on White Oak Creek near present-day Highway 70A. This settlement grew into what is now Forney proper. In 1861, General Ayer's Brigade under General John Bell arrived at Ft Worth and camped on Masonic Hill outside of town while supplies were brought upriver overland from Dallas via Nicholasville Bridge. On September 9th 1861, Confederate Brigadier General Jubal Early rode through Forney with his command including 4 companies of cavalry under Lieutenant Colonel Wm Hatton (the future Governor of Texas) fora parade along Main Street which included music and processions down streets such as Elm Street which led to Banning's Theatre where he had dinner with Gen'l Ayer before moving on to Eagle Ford Creek where he met Gen'l Ulysses S Grant who told him about Corinthian Heights where he said "That looks like Hell" before riding back out to Ft Worth that night accompanied by Lt Col Hatton who took his horse home). On November 15th 1861 an attack against this garrison resulted in five dead (3 men killed & 2 horses captured), 14 wounded & one missing; during these skirmishes Confederate forces burned 5 buildings (& all records lost forever) within 100 yards of Ft Worth military hospital today known as Presbyterian Hospital located at 401 Neches St SW inside modern day Wal-Mart just south of IH-35E exit 13 off IH-35W
Forney was founded in 1836 by General Sam Houston. The city was named after Samuel Forney, who had been a Captain in the Texas Revolution and served as Governor of Alamo City. The first store in Forney opened its doors in 1837. The town grew rapidly and by 1840, it had a population of over 25,000 people. In 1845, Forney became the capital of New Mexico Territory and a year later it became the 45th state of the United States.
