Forney, Texas is a small town in the US state of Texas. It is located in the Midland area. As of the 2010 census, the population was 3,921. The name "Forney" is derived from nearby Fort Worth and began to be used as an English name for the place when it was part of Dallas County. After annexation by Arlington County in 1907, Forney's name became Arlington Heights. The city has a history dating back to 1871 when Austin and its surrounding farms were donated to make way for what would become Forney. At that time, Fort Worth was only a small settlement on the edge of what would become Dallas County. In 1907, Arlington Heights was created from parts of Dallas and Travis Counties as a result of their merger into one county under US President Theodore Roosevelt's New Deal program. By 1910, Forney had grown sufficiently so that it requested its own government - something which didn't happen until 1913 with the creation of City Hall (now Independence Hall). Forney experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to then-warlord General Douglas MacArthur's headquarters at Camp Kilmer on McNary Road south of downtown Forney. The city also played an important role in later wars with Gulf War I and Operation Desert Storm; both times saw high levels of military activity within close proximity to downtown Forney through civic organizations like United Service Organizations (USO) who provided food and entertainment during these events. In recent years, there has been some redevelopment taking place in downtown including new retail stores such as Sears Holdings Home & Kitchen (SHK), Macy’s Department Store (MDS), JCPenneys anchor store North Face Outletanchor Rackspace Center anchor store Bed Bath & Beyond anchor store and more recently Knightsbridge Media Company LLC’s Plaza Hotel which opened up shop adjacent to SHK across from Main Street just off Highway 6 South between Third Street South/Uptown Boulevard Loop eastbound and Fourth Street South westbound

The first settler in Forney was George Harker and his family who purchased land from the Creek Nation in 1837. Forney post office was established on November 1, 1851. In 1872 oil well drilling began in nearby Oil City and forney became one of the early boomtowns in what would become the Houston area. The city's heyday came during World War II when it became known as "The Arsenal of the West". However,economic decline throughout the 1990s led to a loss of jobs and residents fled for other areas of North Texas during that time period. Today Forney is a small community with many businesses closed or struggling to stay alive due to economic conditions. Despite this though some continue to maintain positive attitudes towards their hometown and its people despite some hard times over recent years
