In 1945, Commodore George Dewey donated an oil tanker, SS President Coolidge, toFort Worth as a gift for its naval services during World War II. This donation helped make Fort Worth one of the largest cities in Texas with an active naval fleet. The city also became home to Naval Air Station Enterprise which was established in 1947 and became operational 1 year later!
