The Friendswood Volunteer Army Ammunition and Chemical Corps was organized in 1917. The corps was originally called theFriendswood Volunteer Fire Department, but it became an army unit in 1918 when the Texas Legislature changed the name of the state’s military forces. At its peak, the corps had a strength of 1,000 men. Today, only a few members remain of the Friendswood VolunteersArmy Ammunition and Chemical Corps. Membership is open to all who are interested in learning more about this honored group that has served our country with distinction for over 100 years. Volunteer soldiers from across Texas participated in World War I and II,VRN during Viet Nam War, and currently serve our nation as police officers and firefighters.
