He became the first law enforcement officer to serve in Friendswood when he arrived on July 4th, 1902. From then until 1903, Captain Sayers served as the Town Marshal and acted as a street watchman. On December 3rd, 1903, Captain Sayers was promoted to Lieutenant and assumed command of the Department of Police. In 1904, Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Buehler was appointed Commander of the Department and took over supervision of all law enforcement activity in Friendswood. In 1907, Lieutenant Colonel Buehler was succeeded by Major Harry Fenton and on February 2nd, 1908 Major Fenton became Commandant of the Police Department. On November 1st, 1909 Deputy Sheriff Jesse Hinton joined forces with the Department under Commandant Fenton. From then until 1912 Deputy Sheriff Hinton operated as an individual deputy with full authority over all law enforcement activities inFriendswood. The first police department car that arrived in Friendswood was a Ford Model T automobile donated by Waco (Texas). The Ford Model T automobiles were used for patrol service throughout Dallas County during World War I and were also used by Agent J.D.(John D.) Daly for traffic control purposes within town limits during Prohibition days (1912-1917). On October 15th, 1920 Constable Mose Allison acquired a Cadillac Fleetwood touring car from Dallas County Constable Harry Hayes which he utilized for his patrols within town limits along Loop 1604 South including serving as both driver and passenger during prohibition hours. During World War II Constable Lester Kuller obtained a Ford Crown Victoria sedan from Dallas County Sheriff’s Office which he utilized as his patrol vehicle while stationed at Fort Worth Airport between 1942-1945; however this car never reached Sergeant Kuller’s ultimate destination due to its destruction by fire while parked at Fort Worth Airport.[1] On January 1st, 1951 Sergeant Bill Thomas became an employee of the Village of FriendswOOD after being transferred from Arlington Heights ( Illinois) where he had been employed as an uniformed security guard since May 1950.[2] Sergeant Thomas began service with the Village of Friendship Heights on January 6th,[3] 1955[4], having previously worked for Hanover Township ( Illinois)[5], Elmhurst Township (IL)[6], Winnetka Heights (IL)[7], Park Ridge (IL)[8], Lombard Avenue [9],[10],[11],[12]), Sycamore Street [13],[14],[15])and most recently Vernon Hills(IL).[16]. Friendswood, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Friendswood was founded by Methodist missionaries in 1881. The first post office in Friendswood opened in 1885. The name "Friendswood" was chosen because of its proximity to Fort Worth and other nearby towns. In 1907, Friendship Baptist Church building burned down and the town's first grocery store was built on the site of that fire. The Friends School District formed in 1949 and Friends Park was created within Friends School District limits in 1957. FriendswOOD Elementary School served as the town's only school from kindergarten through eighth grade until it closed in 2009 due to budget cuts from state government; however, elementary students who live in Friendswood continue to attend Friends Park through ninth grade while their parents attend Round Rock ISD schools for high schoolers and tenth grade students are sent to Friendswood High School where they participate in sports programs such as soccer, baseball, track & field and girls' basketball. In 1960-61 construction began on what would become Loop 1204 which connected I-35 with FM 1536 east of Friendswood along Ulysses Road; this project increased traffic congestion on FM 1536 which caused some residents to leave their homes during rush hour but it also helped improve overall access and communication within the community while still keeping residential neighborhoods separate from each other On October 17th 2018 Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Corpus Christi causing extensive damage including floods throughout FriendswOOD as well as several breaches inside multiple homes leading to displacement for many people contributing significantly toward Houston’s homeless crisis . Many people were forced out into Houston’s city Centre (or worse) due to lack of resources or unsafe housing options
