In 1865, Congress passed an act providing for a school district that would include Georgetown and extending it eastward to where present-day Midlothian Boulevard meets Austin Street. The original students at Georgetown were students from Midlothian who had been accepted into the new school district; these students were later replaced by students from Austin who had been accepted into the new school district.
