In 1949, Glenn Heights became an incorporated municipality with a population of 10,500. The population has grown steadily since then; in 2000 it had reached 19,819. Today, Glenn Heights is home to many businesses and families who enjoy its easy access to Interstate 35E and other amenities. The economy of Glen Heights is based largely on agriculture (mainly corn), ranching, tourism, and manufacturing. Some local businesses include Stroud's Hardware Store (which has been open since 1916), lumberyards/machinery stores/depots/, restaurants/bars/cafes/, two schools (both public schools), and two churches - First Baptist Church and Oak Cliff United Methodist Church.
