Grand Prairie is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,552 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Grand Prairie" comes from the prairies that once stretched across this region and were home to buffalo, deer, and other game. In 1871, a group of farmers led by James G. Watt formed the Grand Prairie Improvement Company to develop this land into a community. The company built schools and churches and developed wells and irrigation systems for farming local landowners. In 1925, Grand Prairie became an independent city under the leadership of Mayor John Laddsberry. In 1940, Grand Prairie incorporated as a municipality with a population of 10,000 residents and elected its first mayor—John Pritchard—an independant Democrat who served until his death in 1951 after which time Harry Wills took office Wills also served as mayor from 1966 to 1972 before becoming governor of Texas in 1974 After Wills' defeat in 1978 by George Hoggarty (D), Grand Prairie reverted back to an municipality with 4,500 residents until 1984 when it again became an independent city under Mayor Clyde Coleman Coleman was re-elected in 1988 but lost reelection in 1990 due to allegations of corruption

Grand Prairie, Texas is a city in Sealy County, Texas, United States. The population was 21,512 at the 2010 census. It lost its status as a city after it was annexed by Dallas in 2009. Grand Prairie is located on the former prairie of what is now Fort Worth. At one time it was home to over 100 cotton plantations and today many of those plantations are gone and there remain only a few small acreages left that produce cotton. The town began as an agricultural community with homes for farmers and their families near the local river. In 1868, just before Dallas annexed Sealy County, Grand Prairie petitioned for incorporation as a city with 3,000 citizens vote. On October 8th of that year it became an independent city with grandstands at Main and Elm Streets The growth of downtown Grand Prairie followed suit as businesses relocated from other towns inSealey County because they could get good tax rates here. Growth continued until the early 1920s when World War I led to a decline in demand for cotton so much so that some farms closed and people transitioned into other types of businesses such as lumberjacking or farming instead which resulted in less employment opportunities for downtown workers In 1925 Houston annexed Sealy County making Grand Prairie annexation illegal – though most residents were unsympathetic to Houstons annexation because they saw it as another attempt to take away their jobs In 1932 Wichita Falls annexing nearby Arlington made Grand Poweraires annexation legal but again no one looked kindly upon Wichita Falls because their annexation had nothing whatsoever to do with creating economic opportunity within the community During the late 1940s through 1960s crime rates soared due largely to methamphetamine addiction throughout much of rural America during this time period however little did anyone know about what would happen next; during these years some enterprising individuals decided to open up various businesses within downtown Grand Powers including restaurants, bars/nightclubs (many still exist today), printing shops etcetera while others abandoned or scaled back efforts due largely to lack of available funding or interest

The town that is now Grand Prairie was founded in 1881 by residents of Dallas who wanted to move away from the city because of its pollution and noise. The town grew quickly and soon had a population of over 100 people. In 1907, Grand Prairie became a city and today has a population of over 5,000 people.
