Grapevine is a small town in Ellis County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. Today, Grapevine's economy revolves around two main sources: tourism and defense contracting. Grapevine was founded on October 7, 1879 by J. M. Sayers as a dry goods store and post office in what is now downtown Grapevine. The first post office was located south of Main Street on Eighth Avenue between Brazos Avenue and Railroad Road (now Elmendorf Drive). A large cotton gin had been built northwest of present-day Wright Park before the opening of Interstate 10 made it possible to process cotton more cheaply outside the city limits than within them; so Grapevine became an important center for cotton processing until World War II when trucking replaced rail transport as the primary means of shipping goods to points beyond Dallas/Fort Worth airport boundaries. Grapevine, Texas is a small town located in eastern Nolan County, Texas. The population was 2,948 at the 2010 census. Grapevine was founded in 1879 by Owen W. Finch and his wife Fannie Covington Finch. The first post office was established in 1880.
