The Army has been deployed in Groves, Texas for over a century. The first military deployment took place on July 4th of 1870 when the Confederate army invadedTexas. The Army was here to help protect the citizens and prevent the Confederacy from taking over. One of the most famous deployments of the Army was during World War II when Groves played an important role in providing defense against Japanese forces. In 1951, Groves became home to one of the largest air force bases in America when it was built adjacent to Fort Worth Airport. This base served as a launching pad for American bombers used in WWII and afterwards. Today, Fort Worth Airport is home to several different Air Force Base Units including bomber wings and fighter squadrons. Another famous deployment occurred during Operation Desert Storm which took place in 1991-1992. Groves played an important role as ground zero for this battle which lasted 3 months and resulted in 350 casualties including many heroes like Samir Sagar who died fighting Saddam Hussein’s regime. The current incarnation of theArmy presence in Groves began with World War II Returns Home Tour which took place from October 15-November 5th, 2010 at Fort Worth Municipal Auditorium! This event honored veterans who had returned home since World War II and showcased some of their favorite artifacts from that time period like tanks, planes, artillery pieces etcetera! It was also great chance for civilians to meet these veterans and get a feel for what life must have been like back then!

FORT WORTH, Texas - The Groves Army Depot Museum and Library present "The History of the United States Infantry in Groves, Texas" from September 9-October 3, 2013. This three-day event is open to the public and features a variety of exhibits on military history in Groves. In 1886, General Custer's Seventh Cavalry Regiment was stationed at Fort Worth Army Depot during World War I. In 1927, the depot became the home of the 2nd Battalion, 13th Infantry Regiment when it was transferred from Little Rock Army Depot. On May 1st 1954, Headquarters and Headquarters Company (HHC) 173d Airborne Brigade moved to Fort Worth City Park from Camp Kilmer near Albuquerque New Mexico. On October 16th 1957 elements of HHC 173d Airborne Brigade arrived atGroves Army Depot for storage and conversion to an airborne brigade untilactivation on February 15th 1959 as part of Tactical Air Command's 4th Airlift Wing(HQ Twelfth Air Force). Withdrawal from DFW AFB on November 5th 1959 ended active duty with HHC 173d Airborne Brigade at Groves.
