Haltom City, Texas is a small town in the southern Llano Estacado Parish in the Texan state of Texas. The population was 1,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Haltom City is located about 18 miles (29 km) south of downtown Austin on I-35 and about 15 miles (24 km) east of Lubbock on US 64. The settlement began as a Methodist mission in 1876 and was named for Rev. John Haltom, who had been pastor there from 1861 to 1870. The first post office opened in 1880, and by 1911 the community had 2 stores, 3 churches, and 30 residents. In 1928 it had 5 churches and 100 residents; by 1956 it had 9 churches with 400 residents In 1960 HaltomCity annexed Midland County. At that time its population was 431; by 2000 it was 707}. As part of this annexation, midtown Haltom City lost most of its business district while gaining an enlarged shopping center with several large banks as well as a new high school (Majestic High School). In 2001 Midland County passed a resolution against annexing any more towns within its boundaries because "the loss of services toMidland County would be significant." However, after much discussion over email between county officials and leaders in neighboring counties – including Edinburg – Midland County agreed to annex Haltom City again but changed its mind after learning that other nearby towns were also considering annexation without their consent - leading to what has come to be known as "The Great Outlaw Annexation".

Haltom City is a city in Texas, United States. The population was 21,477 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of McLennan County. Haltom City was founded in 1872 by John A. Haltom and named for him. Haltom City was incorporated as a city on November 5, 1907. The first post office in Haltom City opened on December 2, 1907. On January 1, 1909, the city annexed the village of Temple to its boundaries. In 1930, the city annexed the villages of Addison and Spring Branch to its boundaries John A. Haltom served as mayor from 1892-1894 and 1896-1902; he also served as a delegate to the Texas State Constitutional Convention from McLennan County in 1898 The town of Temple grew up around an agricultural center that handled goods for surrounding counties including McLennan and Tomball In 1906, oil drilling began on adjacent land adjacent to Temple which would eventually become known as North Halliburton Shale Field The first rig drillers arrived at North Halliburton Shale Field during 1911- 1912 season and soon discovered oil reserves that would later be developed into what is now known as Haltom City Houston became one of world's largest petroleum markets when Texaco bought Anadarko Petroleum Corporation's share in Texaco Refining Company for $5 million on April 16, 1915 Holtzmann’s demonstration well test showed that there were significant reservoirs available undertexasco company drilled additional wells during 1916 (9 new wells) but these proved dry . By 1923 production had increased so much that Texaco sold all interests in Anadarko Petroleum Corporation to Standard Oil Company for $30 million
Haltom City was founded in 1876 by Saltillo ranchers J.D. Haltom and W.F. Maynard, who named it after the Haltom Hillock (now part of Austin). The town grew rapidly, and by 1886 had a population of 5,000 people. By 1912, the population had swelled to 30,000 people, and during World War I the city became an important munitions manufacturing center due to its location at the junction of two major U.S. military transportation routes. In 1925, Haltom City annexed parts of Medina County and became a full-fledged city underAustin City Council jurisdiction. In 1935, full-time professional baseball began play in Haltom City with the founding of the Texas League's Houston Colt .45s team; in 1946 the team moved to Austin and changed their name to Astros; and in 1997 they moved back to Haltom City as a member of the American Association's Frontier League (AAL).
