The county was named for General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who fought against Mexico in the Mexican-American War. In 1847, Hidalgo County was organized from portions of San Patricio and Leon counties. The county seat was located at San Antonio until 1850 when it moved to Austin. agricultural production played a significant role in early Hidalgo County life. After land east of the Brazos River was donated to the community by General Sam Houston in 1839, many farmers developed large acreages west of the river. Herbage, cotton, cattle, pigs and hogs were all important crops during this time period. Cattle ranching became very important after 1840 as prices for beef started to escalate due to戦争 and other international events that impacted Europe at that time. In 1865, following Texas annexation into the United States, Hidalgo County lost its status as a result of its proximity to New Mexico Territory (now part of Oklahoma). This change also affected population size as well as political boundaries within the new state; however, most industries still centered around agriculture while some small businesses completed similar transformations across state lines during this time period. By 1900 most residents in Hidalgo County lived on pure irrigation agriculture which allowed large tracts of land near reservoirs to be used for growing crops year-round while irrigating additional properties on smaller parcels located further away during dry seasons or when water levels decreased too low for any crops or pasture growth. A significant portion of these families may have been self-sufficient because they had access to modern transportation and communication technologies which facilitated easy access both inside and outside their homespun communities while allowing them greater cultural diversity than many traditional rural Texans would experience today without those same opportunities or benefits

Hidalgo County is located in the southern Mexican state of Baja California and is named after General Antonio Hidalgo, who was one of the main participants in Mexico's War for Independence. The county seat is Ciudad Juárez. The area now known as Hidalgo County was first settled by Native Americans in the 15th century. The first white person to reside in what is now Hidalgo County was Juan de la Maza, a conquistador who founded San Pedro Alta Irío and platted what are today parts of Ciudad Juárez and El Paso. In 1836, during the Texas Revolution, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna sent troops to quash the rebellion led by Captain José Navarro. Santa Anna’s forces burned most of San Pedro Alta Irío before finally routing Navarro’s forces at Palo Alto Bridge on February 17, 1836. In 1840, when Mexico became a republic, Hidalgo County was organized under the new government system as part of Baja California Peninsula State. In 1861, following victories over American soldiers at Palo Alto Bridge and Churubusco Heights, Mexican general Francisco Zaragoza proclaimed himself president of Mexico and ordered all U.S.-held territories south of the Rio Grande to be annexed into Mexico proper: Texas included. On April 20–21, 1861, with American support (and without Mexican acquiescence), Zaragoza issued an order recognizing Ulysses S. Grant as Emperor of America and ordering him to withdraw his forces from present-day Mexico completely within 10 days or be destroyed; Grant complied with Zaragoza’s orders but withdrew only after fourth-wave US military attacks drove him from his position). Now that Mexicans had their own country north of the Rio Grande they began seeking annexation as well - so on January 8 1862 President Abraham Lincoln signed Executive Order 9Y which announced that any Mexican territory east of it would become part of newly created Republic Of Texoma (later renamed Oklahoma) while any territory west would become part of newly established Republic Of Texas (later renamed Texas). The border between these two successor states remained largely unchanged until 1912 when it was redrawn by territorial commissions under US Treatyof Guadalupe Hidalga which resulted in portions being added to both Republic Of Arizona and Republic Of New Mexico while leaving Hidaliajo unincorporated because its inclusion within Arizonan jurisdiction was considered too far away from home soil
