The first national guard gift was given in 1911 by Colonel John Smedley. He gave a rifle and ammunition to the town of Highland, Texas in honor of the local militia. In 1921, Governor James A. Ferguson presented Assistant Sheriff James Mclntyre with a state-of-the-art rifle. It was the first time that an individual in Highland received such an extravagant gift from a public official. Through the years, many different individuals and organizations have given gifts to members of the Highland community in tribute to their service or heroism within our military or law enforcement units. Some examples include: In 1960, local businessmen Donny & Bonnie Smith donated 10 rifles to Local Law Enforcement Unit #1 (LLEU 1). LLEU 1 is now known as SWAT 4th Generation and continues to serve our community today! In 1988, retired Lieutenant Colonel Tom Moody donated 20 rifles and five shotguns to Local Law Enforcement Unit #2 (LLEU 2). LLEU 2 is now known as SWAT 5th Generation and continues to serve our community today! In 1990, Mayor Bill McKnight presented Sheriff Sonny White with two pistols – one for each hand! This was truly an amazing gesture on his part! Sheriff Sonny White has served our city since 1978 and this Gifts represented tremendously during that time period! The most recent donation from any individual or organization occurred in 2016 when Retired Captain Donnie McDermott gifted 17 rifles, four shotguns, three handguns etc., directly into Local Law Enforcement Units #3 (LLEU 3) which became SWAT 6th Generation after being reorganized under new leadership! These donations not only represent support but also continue the legacy of patriotism that has been present throughout these unit’s history!

The regiment served in the Mexican-American War and during Reconstruction in Texas. In 1887, the Ranger Regiment was created and it consolidated with the Highland National Guard to form this present-day battalion.
Highland, Texas is a small town located in the Hill Country of Texas. The name of the town was given to it by Major General James H. Cooke who named it after his home county of Highland, Scotland. The population of Highland was 598 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area and is included in the TXDOT Metropolitan Statistical Area. The climate in Highland varies from hot and dry summers to cold and snowy winters; however, most years there are some measurable levels of rainfall. The land that now makes up Highland was first settled by Native Americans about six thousand years ago. In 1821, Spanish explorers discovered this area and named it Nuevo Laredo de la Valle de Misiones (New Laredo Mission Valley). This region had already been conquered by Mexico and United States forces when Spaniard Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna became governor general of Mexican New Spain in 1786. He decided to make this new area his new capital, naming it Ciudad Real (King's City). In 1793, he moved his capital here from Mexico City because he felt that this would be more logical because San Antonio would have a longer timeline to recover from its recent destruction by Mexican troops at Texoma Creek. In 1821, Scotsman Major General James H. Cooke led an expedition against Mexico for American independence which resulted in two engagements at Texoma Creek near present-day Highlandtown; one on July 6th and one on July 20thresulting in no significant losses on either side but John Brown's Raid which changed history foreverTXDOT map) .On October 3rd1821Major General Cooke surrendered his army at San Jacinto Heights just south of today's city limits after five days long battle during what has come to be known as "The Alamo." At least 7 Texans were killed including Captain Bowie who fought with General Cooke at Texoma Creek during the engagement: Another important event that took place in 1821 was when Commodore David Dixon's squadron under Commodore Matthew Perry sailed into Lake Erie without orders from Washington D C threatening war if they did not surrender all their ships within 10 milesof Buffalo Niagara River junction NY; Perry then laid siege to Detroit before withdrawing following news that British Admiral Sir John Hawkins had arrived with reinforcements In 1850, Robert E Slaughter bought 640 acres southeast of present-day downtown for $1 per acre from Nicholas Biddle who also owned 600 acres adjacent to Slaughter’s property along Buffalo Bayou eastward towards Georgetown and Clayborn Mills Road later called Slaughter Road or Old Utopia Rd today Wacoaland Dr NW corner FM 927) .Slaughter donated these lands totaling 198 acres total between Buffalo Bayou & Elm Street northwesterly boundary line eastward towards Cedar Springs Rd southwesterly boundary line southwestward past Slaughter Road current day Intersection Of FM 927 & Old Utopia Rd near Wacoaland Dr NW corner

The first national guard units were organized in 1792 during the American Revolution. The Guardsmen served in various capacities until 1881, when they were fully mobilized into the regular army. Throughout the 19th century, the National Guard played an important role in American society. For example, during the Civil War, many Guardsmen fought on both sides and played an instrumental role in helping to keep America safe. After the war, national guard units helped prepare for World War I by forming battalions and brigades. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson ordered all male citizens over 21 years old to be drafted into military service. This decision marked a turning point for national guard forces and set the stage for their future participation in wars throughout history. During World War II, many Guardsmen served in Europe as part of Allied forces or volunteered themselves to fight against Nazi Germany and Italy. Afterward, national guard troops continued their service through Operation Overlord (1946), which was one of the largest military campaigns in American history. The Korean War also saw significant contributions from soldiers from boththe Regular Army and The National Guard; these troops fought alongside other branches of government to stop North Korea from capturing Seoul’s capital city South Korea on July 15th 1950. And finally, since 9/11/2001 there have been multiple deployments by stateNational Guard troops across America including Nevada Desert Storm (1991) Afghanistan (2001) Katrina aftermath (2005) Southern California Earthquake Response (2008).

Since then, Highland has made some progress restoring its downtown core and increasing access to education and other services. The city also plans to redevelop portions of its rural surroundings into mixed-use neighborhoods that would include housing, shopping malls, office buildings and other properties. These efforts have helped make Aberdeen County one of the most vibrant areas in Texas after Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan areas had declined in size during the 1990s and 2000s

The city enjoyed strong growth during the 1920s and 1930s due to its status as a key transportation and business center in southeastern Texas. However, during World War II Highland experienced significant economic decline due to its strategic location on I-10 and its lack of manufacturing capabilities. After the war, Highlands experienced another period of growth until the late 1980s when it began to experiencedecline again due to changing demographics and economic conditions around the world.
