Houston’s history with artisan coffee began back in the early 1800s. A group of businessmen from Houston founded a small business called The Koffee Klatch on Magazine Street in 1875. They roasted their own beans and served them at local businesses around town. In 1902, The Ritz-Carlton hotel opened its doors and became one of the first places customers could purchase espresso drinks from professional baristas. Over time, otherHoustonian institutions followed suit: Pecan Lodge Café opened its doors in 1933 as the world’s first self-serve java location; Magnolia Café moved into its current building on Westheimer Road in 1974; Second City Cafe opened its doors in 1978; Market Garden Cafeteria relocated to Beechnut Stadium (now NRG Stadium) in 2004; and finally Third Place Coffee moved into its current digs on Montrose Boulevard just south of I-610 in 2008. Our beans are roasted in small batches by hand, and each bean is carefully chosen for its flavor profile. Our roast process includes steeping for hours in rich roasts that have been seasoned with spices and herbs. Our coffees are then vacuum sealed so they can't spoil. We use only whole bean coffee beans from trusted suppliers, who grind them fresh on-site. We also remove all harmful chemicals before roasting, which helps us get the most out of each cup of our coffee.

Houston is one of the most diverse cities in the United States. Its history spans over 125 years, from its founding as a small town in 1836 to its current status as a global center for business and culture. This paper will explore some of Houston's most important historical milestones, from its early days as an agricultural community to its growth as a leading city during the late 19th century and into the 20th century. The earliest known inhabitants of what is now Houston were farmers and hunters who settled along the banks of the Buffalo Bayou in what is now Webster County in 1836. In 1837, Houston was incorporated as a city under the name "Houston." The city's first mayor was James Fenton. Houston experienced rapid growth during the Texas Revolution (1845-48). The Battle of San Jacinto (1846), which resulted in Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna being killed, helped spur economic development in Houston.
