Humble, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Humble County. The population was 257,635 at the 2010 census,[1] making it the largest city in Humble County by population. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and is located on Interstate 10 between Dallas and Fort Worth. The first people to live in what is now Humble were farmers who grew corn, beans, and other crops near present-day Slaughter Road and US-580.[2] The first post office in Humble was established in 1872.[3] In 1902, a railroad station was built onpresent-day Slaughter Road; it became known as "Humble Junction" because so many trains stopped there for water or coal during construction of the new rail line from Dallas toFort Worth. In 1945, when Humble Boulevard (now I-10) was being constructed through town, residents erected a large metal fence around their homes to keep out night riders who used that route to get from Fort Worth to Dallas. By 1951, most of downtown had been developed with high-rise buildings; however, some businesses still operated near Slaughter Road because that's where they did business before highways got into town. In 1957 two schools opened in downtown: one called Dealey Junior High School[4][5], which serves students until grades 12,[6] and another called Houston Heights Elementary School[7], which served students untilgrades 6th grade before branching off into separate schools systems within Harris County (Houston). When I-10 was rerouted through town in 1994,[8][9] parts of downtown were destroyed including what remained of Dealey Junior High School while Houston Heights ElementarySchool survived intact as an independent school system serving students untilgrades 9th grade before branching off into its own schools systems within Harris County once again (Houston). In 1960s citizens started redeveloping areas along I-10 outside of town limits towards Temple University due to limited land available within town limits for development.[10][11][12][13][14]. One such early developer was Lamar Hunt Sr., son of then Senator James Mclntyre Jr., who began developing Hunt Valley which includes today's Midtown shopping district north side of I-10 between Temple University Hospitality Tower eastbound lanes and State Capitol Drive westbound lanes just south of FM 1559/US 281/TX 359 [15]. Hunt Valley also included much later funding for local government services such as fire protection districts deep inside city limits prior to those services becoming available statewide or even elsewhere within TX via MediCal / Caltrans RTD service instead.[16],[17] Today Hunt Valley remains primarily an agricultural area but contains several high end shopping centers as well as numerous restaurants including Zappos / Toys 'R' Us - one location having been open since 2005 - all located adjacent multiple highway exits accessible via public transportation including bus routes running directly behind both campuses across busy Midtown streets parking garages are available nearby with shuttle service readily available during regular business hours

Humble was founded in 1872 by Laddie and Julia Humble. It was named for General Sam Houston. The first post office in Humble opened on March 15, 1872. In 1902, the name of the town changed from Laddie to Humble to reflect its increasing importance as a center of trade and commerce in the area. Trucking services became an important part of local economy after World War II when roads were improved and truck traffic increased along Interstate 20 east of town grew faster than passenger automobile traffic. In 1951, Humble built its first high school (Humble High School). The community also built a Baptist church in 1951 and a public water system in 1956. In 1976, he Consolidated Mining Company bought all but one share of the original white-ownedJ&L Exploration & Development Company which had mined coal here since 1870; this company continued to operate as J&L Coal until it merged with Peabody Energy Corporation in 2001 before being sold again to EOG Resources Corporation three years later that year In 2008-2009 during Hurricane Ike damage assessment work took place on many homes within walking distance or drive time so that pre-damage repairs could be done prior to landfall if necessary Humble has annexed two neighboring towns: Springtown (north) and Slaughtertown (southwest). Everything inside Slaughtertown boundaries will be governed by laws set forth by commissioners while everything outside Slaughtertown boundaries will be governed by ordinances adopted by residents within their respective townships

It was founded by George Humble in 1836 as a small community near what is now downtown Austin. Humble's origins can be traced back to 1836, when George Humble founded a small town on the south side of Round Rock Creek east of Austin. The town rapidly grew and prospered due to its location, fertile land, and access to transportation including wagon roads and stagecoaches that transported goods from Mexico City to Austin. In 1851, Humble became one of the first cities in Texas when he incorporation as a village within what is now Travis County. In 1876, Baylor University purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of property from James Walker for $1,000 which served as campus until 1901 when it moved to Plano and became Plano State University. In 1916, Houston annexed parts of Travis County so that it could have its own county seat while remaining part of Travis County; this annexation created Humble as an enclave withinHouston with its own government and court system separate from those found inHouston proper. The post-World War II boom period saw growth along Interstate 10 north into central Texas despite predictions that outlying neighborhoods such as Rushville would become ghost towns following changes in commuting patterns brought about by interstate travel and development outside Houston proper during this time period; these predictions were wrong however because Rushville quickly developed into an important bedroom community forHouston whileHumble languished behind with few economic opportunities or infrastructure developments truly resembling those seen outsideHouston proper during this time period - until recently! Today's economy relies heavily on energy production which has led to new highway construction projects such as I-10 Corridor Expansion Project which will add 5 miles (8 km) of expressway through downtown Houston between 610th Street NW and 6th Street NW - perfect conditions for another influx of high-paying jobs!
