Hurst is a town in Parker County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,513 at the 2000 census. As of the 2010 census, Hurst had 2,521 residents. The first European settler in what is now Hurst was John Houstoun who arrived in 1836. His farmstead and mill are still extant today. The town site was surveyed by254th Regiment of Texas Volunteers on November 9, 1850 and platted on December 12 of that year. It became a part of Dallas Township on January 5, 1851. Hurst began to grow rapidly due to its location near Waco and other oil fields developed there during the early 1900s. In 1907 it annexed the adjacent community of White Sands which had a population of 622 people at the time. This annexation increased Hurst's population by more than three-fold over the next 10 years as businesses established themselves hereabouts and new families moved into the town from outlying areas such as McKinney and Arlington Heights. In 1916 when Dallas County was created from portions of Parker and Denton Counties, Hurst became one of its first municipalities. It remained an independent municipality until it joined with neighboring White Sands to form Parkertown in 1959 just before its incorporation into Dallas County as well; this merger increased its population by almost 50%. On July 1, 1984, following passage of Senate Bill 131 which provided for county consolidation withinDallas County (thus creating ParkerCounty), Hurst formally becoming a part of ParkerCounty after two decades as an independently organized municipality under separate jurisdiction! currently has 2k residents

Hurst, Texas is a small town in Gregg County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,722 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from J.D. Hurst who settled there in 1879 and had a grocery store and post office named after him until he sold it to the townsite development corporation in 1957. The first settler in Hurst was John Denton who arrived in 1879 from Kentucky. He built a cabin on the site of what is now known as Main Street and raised his family here. Denton's children were instrumental in setting up the first school here which opened its doors to students on December 12, 1881. In 1907, J.D. Hurst bought land adjacent to Main Street and established a grove of trees near his store as part of what became known as "The Park." In 1957, when the Townsite Development Corporation came into being, they developed much of The Park including Hurst's original grocery store and post office building (now called the Community Center). They also added several other buildings including residences and an elementary school which served Hurst until 1984 when it became part of Baker Elementary School District No 710th Campus located just east of town on FM 527 north-east of I-10 Exit 164B/Garland Road North (I-35W exit 159A). In 1986, The Community Center was renamed Hurst Elementary School District No 710th Campus for John Dryden Hurd (1868 - 1951) who served as Superintendent during that time and played an important role in developing many aspects of today's campus including infrastructure such as libraries/maintenance yards/parking lots etc.; creating unique student experiences through arts programs; sponsoring community events including 4th Of July fireworks displays; developing relationships with local businesses; serving as a vital resource for residents both inside and outside the district; hosting numerous educational meetings throughout year ending September; awarding numerous scholarships & grants annually to deserving high school students statewide & locally
