The Jacksonville Air Force Base gift history goes back to 1951. The base first received gifts from the United States government in the form of military hardware and supplies. In 1957, the United States Congress passed a resolution recognizing Jacksonville as an air force installation and annually providing $1,000 for equipment and supplies to be given to the installation. From then until present, there have been numerous donations from individuals and businesses within the Jacksonville community in order to support our military presence here at JAX AFB.
Jacksonville is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, and the seat of Harrison County. The population was 143,586 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Jacksonville became an incorporated municipality on July 1, 1892, with a population of 20 souls. The original name for Jacksonville was "Jasper" after Jasper Cady, who had settled there in 1853 as a cotton planter and postmaster. A popular legend has it that General John Custer passed through Jacksonville while on his way to Battle Creek, Michigan; he ordered one of his troopers to stop at the town's store and buy him some bacon before continuing on his way. The grateful citizens gave the general a good reception when he arrived back in town two days later. The first permanent settler in Jacksonville was James Fenton who came overland from Arkansas in 1857 and built a cabin near what is now downtown Jacksonville. He named his settlement "Fenton's Landing." In 1861, Fenton married Rachel Keyes and they moved to what is now Northwest Third Street near present day Interstate 10th Avenue NW., where they lived until their death in 1916. They are buried at SpringHill Cemetery located off Northwest Third Street NW.. Another early settler was George Waddell who arrived around 1860 and erected a log cabin on property now known as East Fourth Street NE., east of downtown today . He also founded what is today White Sands Missile Range adjacent to Jacksonville Landing NAS which serviced Naval Air Station Patuxent River-. Jaxport Landing opened its doors on December 12th 1912 with Coxey's Ferry landing just beyond it serving as both ferry landing and Temporary Headquarters for Commander First Fleet Atlantic during World War I US Navy operations off Chesapeake Bay- providing logistics support for Grand Fleet- Grand Harbor exercises October 1917 - January 1918

The population of Jacksonville peaked at 10,000 in the early 1990s but has fallen since then due to commuting and other reasons.

The city quickly emerged as a major center for the slave trade and cotton production in the region. In 1840, Jacksonville became the first Anglo-Saxon settlement in what is now Houston County. During the American Civil War, Jacksonville sided with the Union and was burned by Confederate forces on April 12, 1865.
