The Coast Guard of Jacksonville, Texas was organized on November 3, 1916. The first members were Captain H.W. Kuter and First Lieutenant W.G. Dowling from the Port Arthur Light Auxiliary and they were joined by Second Lieutenant Fenton Biddle on December 15th. The first officer in command was First Lieutenant Elisha S. White with Captain Kuter as his second in command. On January 1st 1917 the Coast Guard had its first station when it was stationed at Saint Johns Island on the Gulf of Mexico vacated by the USCGC SS Wichita which had gone to Great Britain for World War I service The Coast Guard of Jacksonville continued to grow until it had a full complement of twelve officers and men on April 1st 1947 when it accepted its present name In 1962 the Coast Guardestablished a Station at Seaweed Point just east of Jacksonville The Station continued to grow until 1998 when it reopened under new management as part of Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Homeland Security Department Today, Federal Emergency Management Agency's Homeland Security Department manages both stations together as one station called "Jaxport".

Jacksonville, Texas is a city in the U.S. state of Texas and the county seat of Austin County. The population was 411 at the 2010 census, up from 350 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Jacksonville is located on Arkansas River just upstream from downtown Dallas, about 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Austin, and about 25 miles (40 km) southwest of Houston. The first Europeans to visit Jacksonville were Spanish explorers in 1541 when they established a trading post along what is now I-635 near present-day Arlington Heights. The settlement grew rapidly due to its location on the banks of the Arkansas River, trade with Native American peoples, and protection by English settlers who developed Fort Brooke as their capital in 1693. In 1839 Jacksonville became an independent town under Mexican rule following annexation by Anglo America following Texas's admission into that country as a state in 1845. When Mexico disbanded its army after Texan independence was achieved in 1846, English traders continued to thrive as they negotiated land grants from Mexico City until1848 when all trade stopped because of economic instability caused by new United States regulations implementing Mexican Constitution limitations on slavery
