Katy, Texas is a small city located in the east-central section of the United States. The population was 17,815 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bastrop County. In 1870–71 there were 11 farmers with 7 acres or less planted in cotton; during this time period cowboys commonly roamed the area surrounding Katy searching for water buffalo to drive into Transoceanic shipping lanes via long drives through open countryside populated only by Indian scouts who reported back to their respective chiefs what they discovered on these trips
