The area now occupied by Katy was originally settled by Paleo-Indians in what is now Fort Worth. By 1836, all of present-day Denton County had been organized, and Katy was included within it. In 1881, as part of a general annexation of eastern Dallas County, Katy became a municipality. In 1930, when Amarillo Municipal Airport opened, much of present-day Denton County served as its airport property. This led to increased development around the airport and in other areas near it; by 1960, there were over 50 businesses on an acre (2 hectares) surrounding Amarillo Municipal Airport. As more people moved into the area and businesses started up around the airport, annexed areas to the south and east grew rapidly; by 2000 those borders had shrunk to their current ones due to annexation from Richardson county as well as growth in nearby Arlington Heights neighborhood towards downtown Austin

The population of the city was 1,827 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Katy was George Goodspeed and his family who arrived on horseback from London in 1876. From their home on the banks of Buffalo Bayou north of downtown, they surveyed land that would later become part of the community known as Katy. The Goodspeed's children were instrumental in helping to make Katy a successful agricultural community with their innovation in irrigation systems and corn farming techniques that continue to be used today. Katy's history can be traced back to 1876 when 139 settlers, most of whom were farmers from Great Britain, arrived on horseback within driving distance of what would become known as "The City." This group included seventy-eight men and nineteen women under the leadership of George P. Goodspeed (1838-1924). Goodspeed had been born in Liverpool but immigrated to America at age sixteen after witnessing riots break out between British immigrants and native Americans near his home town during an American Revolution protest demonstrations against British rule over Ireland. After arriving in America he worked his way up through local businesses before becoming president or treasurer of several small communities including Buffalo Bayou where he built the first schoolhouse west of Dallas in 1875; he also donated land for a public square which still stands today across from City Hall across from Rice University (now Houston University). In 1924, following World War I veterans' return to America, Mayor John Hennigan proposed thatkaty become a city due to its growth potential as an agricultural center and its location along important transportation routes such as Buffalo Bayou Road and US 90/US 287/TX 281 (the original Gulf Coast Expressway).kansas county commissioners voted 7-2 to support Hennigan's proposal while east txan County commissioners abstained because they felt it would have consequences for their own jurisdiction. On July 17th 1924 excitement ensued when news spread throughout eastern TXan County that KATY had accepted incorporation into kansas county! Today Katy remains one of America’s smallest cities with just over 1,000 residents living within its limits – less than half the size of some larger towns such as Boston or New York City – yet it has managed to maintain strong ties with its rural past by hosting many events related specifically to agriculture including “Corn Show & Dinner” each October since 1907; twice annually attracts top chefs from all around North America; hosted two world championships track & field events beginning in 1964; served as host city for both USA Track & Field’s Men’s Olympic Trials event held outdoors at Baylor Stadium prior to moving into stadium permanently adjacent McKinney Parklands & currently seats over 26K during live events year round
