Gourmet Coffee has been serving the La Porte community since then with their world-renowned coffee. La Porte is a town in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Hidalgo County. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. La Porte is part of the El Paso–New Mexico Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by George Haughton and named for him after his hometown, LaPorte, Indiana. It became a full-time municipality in 1907 and changed its name to LaPorte in 1925 when it joined El Paso as one of its seven municipalities. The city's growth led to the donation of land on which the modern day municipal buildings were built: City Hall (1927), Post Office (1929), Library Annex (1934), Police Department (1950), and Fire Department (1964). As with most small towns throughout North America, many aspects of life are centered around agriculture; however, there are also some businesses that focus on health care and education. The LaPorte Independent School District serves students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade; while East Valley Elementary School offers PreK to 8th grade services as well as single-sex kindergarten through eighth grade services beginning in 2009/10; West Valley Elementary School offers K-8th grades until 12th grade services starting in fall 2009/10. In addition to these schools, two high schools serve La Porte proper—Hugh Carey High School which opened in 2002 and Northeast High School which opened in 2006—along with three smaller alternative high schools serving portions of the town: Alamo Heights Intermediate School District No.: 2 (opened Fall 2007) serving students from pre-kindergarten through 11th grades east of IH 35; South Plains Intermediate School District No.: 3serving students from pre-kindergarten through 6th grades west side of IH 35 between US 375 & US 380; and Canyon Creek Junior High School serving students from 7th through 10th grades east side of IH 35 between US 375 & US 380

La Porte (formerly La Hogue) is a city in and the county seat of Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 397 at the 2010 census. The city was founded by Texans who relocated from Fort Worth in 1881. La Porte became an agricultural center during the early years of its existence, with beef cattle and cotton being the most extensively grown crops. However, as industrialization began to take hold in the late 19th century, La Porte began to experience significant growth as a center for trade and commerce. In 1907, LaPorte was designated as the terminus of what is now Interstate 20. As industry declined thereafter and migration increased within Texas throughout the 20th century, much of La Porte's commercial activity shifted inland or offshore; however, some downtown businesses still remain operational today. Today, much of downtown LaPorte is composed of large malls which have helped to preserve many aspects of its history while leading to new development around them.
In 1836, La Porte was the site of an important Battle of La Porte. The battle was fought between the United States and Mexico. Mexican forces were expecting to attack U.S. forces stationed at Fort Worth, Texas, but they instead faced a American force led by General Sam Houston. The Mexicans were defeated, and Houston took control of the fortification as part of his victory.
