Lakeway, Texas is a town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock–San Antonio metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1879 by John Sellers and named after the creek on which it was located. In 1907, Lakeway became a city and was renamed Lakeway Heights. In 1960, Lakeway Heights merged with neighboring Round Rock to form what is now known as Lakeway Community College. The city of Austin annexed parts of Williamson County in 2011 and incorporated them into its new municipality; however, Lakeway remains an unincorporated community within Austin's limits. Lakeway Technical School District No. 214 (ltds 214) is one of four high school districts that serve the town of Lakeway TX (the others are Hays ISD #311-318 & Travis HS #315).

Lakeway is a town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Lakeway is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. It is home to Texas A&M University and its main campus. The name "Lakeway" originated from a post office called "Lakota" on the banks of the Trinity River within present-day Lakeway Park. In 1881, John Hance established a sawmill in what is now downtown Lakeway with mills built upstream for storage and for power generation; these were destroyed by a flood in 1907. The first store in town was opened by W.H. Sargent in 1915; it closed because of high water levels caused by Tropical Storm Joaquin (a category 5 hurricane). In 1916, Jock Mahoney founded an insurance company which still operates as Mahoney Insurance Company today. The city of Austin annexed Riceville annexation on November 3, 1923 and on December 12 of that year announced its intention to annex any unincorporated territory east side of I-35 between US 71/US 290 and Loop 410 (the current border between Lakeway and Austin). On January 7, 1924 – two days after annexation – the City Council approved Resolution No.(1) authorizing establishment of an agency to deal with traffic congestion on I-35 linking both cities; this became known as the "Riceville Traffic Agency". On February 4th, 1925 Mayor Rufus Waddell dissolved said agency due to lack of money and replaced it with the newly created City Development Authority under jurisdiction of Mayor Waddell's Planning Department; this authority continued until May 25th when all responsibility for land development passed from City Development Authority to new Countywide planning department headed by Harry Mizelewicz who had been appointed Deputy Commissioner for Planning Services soon after taking office January 2nd 1929 On October 15th 1933 Jameson Easley purchases 640 acres southwest corner FM 825 & FM 1623 from Mrs 5015 Laughlin & her husband Jimmie Easley resulted in creation Cooley Farms which later became Eastlake Ranch subdivision On March 31st 1951 Vernon Steele purchase 1400 acres northeast corner FM 930 & FM 512 from Texaco Refinery resulted in creation Steele Ranch subdivision

Lakeway is a small town located in northwestern Travis County, Texas, about 12 miles (19 km) east of downtown Austin. The community was founded in 1876 by the merger of two earlier settlements, Mount Pleasant and Cedar Creek. The first post office opened in Lakeway on November 25, 1876. It was closed on December 5, 1886 because of the Panic of 1886. The current incarnation of Lakeway began as a agricultural hamlet called Cedar Creek Settlement. On January 1, 1907, it became an incorporated municipality with a population of 300. In 1918 the name was changed to Lakeway after Mrs. Alice Ladd purchased land east of the town line and established a country estate named Lakeside Farms which still stands today and provides cultural programming for visitors to enjoy. On July 1, 1951 the townspeople voted to annex neighboring unincorporated parts of Tarrant County in order to form a new metropolitan area known as Arlington Heights that would have included all of north central Tarrant County as well as much of south central Williamson County including Dripping Springs and Tomball (then Tomball Valley). The vote passed with almost 60% turnout due in part to fears that annexation would reduce support for nearby Austin within the newly formed city limits.
Lakeway was founded by John Kerr in 1872. It was named for the creek that ran through it. The community developed around a post office, school, and grain elevator. In the 1930s, Lakeway became a steel town because of its production of heavy equipment.
