The Lancaster National Guard was organized on December 3, 1936. The first unit to be activated was the 372d Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in World War II and the Korean War. It was disbanded in 1960 but re-activated on September 25, 1961 as part of the Texas National Guard. On October 1, 1963, it became an operational unit of the Texas Army National Guard. The guard saw action in the Gulf War and Hurricane Katrina. It currently serves as a support arm for state law enforcement agencies across Texas.

Lancaster is a city in Lamar County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Lancaster was founded by prospectors in 1859 and became a town in 1867. Its name comes from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where settlers came from during the 1830s to pan for gold. Lancaster, Texas is a small town located in the southeastern corner of Tarrant County, Texas. The population of Lancaster was 2,898 as of the 2010 census. Lancaster is home to the University of Texas at Lancaster and the Lancaster Regional Airport, which serves as a major gateway for travelers to central and eastern Tarrant County. The first settlers in what is now Lancaster were German immigrants who arrived in 1836. The town site was chosen because it had good water resources and its location on the railroad made it easy to grow crops and provide goods for local consumers. By 1881, there were over 100 businesses in Lancaster and about 1,000 residents. In 1916, after years of negotiations between ranchers and landowners in central Tarrant County, the state legislature passed an act creating Tarrant County Agricultural College (now Plano Community College). The college was intended as a training ground for new farmers so that they could sell their products throughout eastern Tarrant County. The land used by Agricultural College was donated by businessman Charles Hogg III. It wasn't until 1919 that construction began on what would become known as Hogg Hall on State Highway 83 north of downtown Lancaster. In 1932, when the college opened its doors to students, it became one of the largest rural universities in America. During World War II, Lancaster played a key role in providing food supplies for soldiers stationed overseas. A large mill complex built near downtown produced flour for army troops stationed around Europe. Additionally, mass production took place at nearby Smiths Machine Shop during World War II to produce munitions needed by global warlord Adolf Hitler's Nazi party
On October 6, 1836, the town of Lancaster was founded in what is now Angelina County by a group of Texans led by James K. Polk. The town was named after Lancaster, England, where the first European settlers had landed in 1769. The town quickly became a center for agriculture and ranching and grew rapidly until it reached its peak in the early 1870s. However, because of its location on the Llano River, Lancaster was also vulnerable to drought and floods that regularly struck the area. In 1881, Lancaster was annexed by Houston to form a new city-county.
