The Leon Valley Army National Guard is one of the oldest and most active military units in Texas. The unit was organized on December 12, 1867 and served during the American Civil War. During the war, the Leon Valley Army National Guard fought in various battles including San Jacinto and Mission Reach. After the war, the unit continued to serve as a reserve force until it was disbanded on July 1, 1920. In 1955, the Leon Valley Army National Guardttes were reorganized into an infantry battalion and given their current name-the 101st Airborne Division Infantry Battalion (Leon Valley). In 1969, a rifle company was also added to the battalion. In 2006, an artillery battery was also given to the battalion. The battalion currently has three companies-a heavy machinegun company, an antitank company and a reconnaissance platoon-and is responsible for providing security for all of Leon Valley County. Leon Valley is located in Medina County, Texas. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Houston-Sugar Land metropolitan area. The Leon Valley School District serves students from pre-K to 12th grade.
The Leon Valley community began as a small farming village near the present day town of Kirbyville on the Red River. In 1882, settlers named John Witherspoon and his family bought land in what is now Leon Valley from the Apache Indians for $1 per acre (they had previously purchased 640 acres). They started a small cotton plantation and laid out a two-mile square Native American hunting ground known as "the Horseshoe."
In 1902, Witherspoon's son George Washington organized a group of men to secure water rights for irrigation in what is now Leon Valley. By 1907 there were three miles of pipeline running through the valley and seven farmers had built homes. By 1918, more than fifty people lived in what is now Leon Valley – twenty-eight farmers, ten chalets and fifteen cottages – all using water from Buffalo Bayou.
When World War II hit America, many jobs went overseas due to wartime production shortages; however, businesses in America still flourished because they could sell goods made elsewhere at lower prices because American consumers could not afford to buy such high quality goods from abroad. Farming families like those in Lewis’original locality lost their farms during the war but continued to live close by on their original homesteads until after it ended. As post-war times improved with new technology such as tractor purchases by women who no longer worked on their husbands’ farms - leading some farmer families off their land altogether - many residents soldiered on making do with less water and less money for groceries than when they first arrived in postwar America."Leon Valley: A History"
This changed starting around 1970 when word got out that good places to farm were going cheap thanks to advances in agriculture technologies like chemical fertilizers and herbicides which allowed big companies like Monsanto to buy up smaller farmers' shares without necessarily having to improve or expand facilities or increase yields. This causedmany smallholder farmers throughout Texas - including many who had been cultivating corn, beans and other vegetables for generations -to lose everything they owned overnight when Monsanto acquired them.

Leon Valley is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,589 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The Leon Valley community sprang up around a post office built in 1884 and named after Captain John Leonidas Polk. A sawmill and gristmill were started there in 1886 by James Bigham, Sr., an early settler. The town developed rapidly due to its location near ranching areas and cotton plantations that produced crops for local markets. By 1910, Leon Valley had a school, store, blacksmith shop, Methodist church (later Baptist), doctor's office and three homes. The cotton fields of the 1930s yielded little income for most residents so the population declined until the 1960s when oil exploration began in nearby Fort Worth and new jobs became available in production plants outside of town. With high energy prices came increased development costs which led to declines in property values throughout the 1990s and 2000s; however, recent economic growth has returned much of the original community to its former prosperity thanks to new businesses such as vehicle salesyards and a hotel/motel complex being built on land once used for agricultural purposes. In spite of these improvements many residents still maintain close ties with their pioneer ancestors through cultural events such as picnics or barbecues on Fourth Street each summer during summerFest().
The Leon Valley Massacre took place on July 16, 1873, in the Leon Valley of Texas. A group of men led by Buffalo Bill Cody killed twenty-six Texans who had been accused of cattle rustling.
