The Leon Valley Naval Air Station, located in Baytown, Texas, was the first naval air station in the United States and operated from 1915 to 1946. It was home to the Grumman F4F Wildcat fighter squadron during World War 1 and also served as a training ground for subsequent U.S. Navy pilots. The airfield was closed after the war and used for storage until it reopened as an airport in 1954. In 1966, the navy decommissioned Leon Valley NAS and merged it with Corpus Christi NAS, creating Corpus Christi NAAS. The new NAS operated out of Baytown until its closure in 1990. Today, Leon Valley NAS is a museum which showcases circa 1930s naval aviation history and artifacts from various American warships that have been stationed at NAS Baytown since then.

By 1915 it had grown to more than 30,[1] thanks in part to annexation by nearby Houston following the creation of Harris County (latertx). The influx of new residents led to dramatic changes throughout Leon Valley – both physically and culturally: Today’s residents are made up of many different ethnicities and backgrounds; there are no single stereotypes here anymore! For example, Englishspeaking people make up about 60%ofthe population while Hispanics/Latino make up about 20%.
