Lewisville is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas, located about 25 miles (40 km) east of Austin on Interstate 5. With a population of just over 3,000 people in 2009, Lewisville is the largest community in Travis County and one of the smallest cities in Texas. The name "Lewisville" was given to it by General Sam Houston during his campaign for governor in 1836. The town was founded by Methodist missionaries from Illinois who came to Texas in 1839 as part of the original group that explored and claimed the area now known as Texas.
