The Lewisville National Guard was organized on December 15, 1935. The unit was named in honor of Colonel James B. Lewis who had served in the Texas Army National Guard and was later elected to the United States Congress. The first officers were commissioned on January 1, 1936 with Major John W. Roche as the first commanding officer. The Lewisville National Guard has played an important role in local defense since its inception. In 1941, the guard units were called into service for World War II when Texas became a partner state in that war effort. During the war, the National Guard units performed many tasks such as providing guards at military installations and helping to evacuate citizens during air raids. After the war, there was a resurgence of interest in national guard service and Lewisville’s National Guard unit received a new name-the “Lewisville Regiment” due to their location within town limits and proximity to civilian facilities needed for combat operations against outlaw gangs and other threats to public safety. There have been many changes to how national guard gift history is reported over time; however, one constant has been the large number of gifts given by private individuals or groups wishing to show support for military or government efforts. This paper will focus specifically on gifts given between 1945 and 1960 which are considered particularly noteworthy because they reflect both local community support through giving backpacks or other items as well as national pride through items like flags or banners flown at parades honoring members of the regiment/unit/ organization
The National Guard is a national reserve force of the United States. It is made up of all citizens over 18 who are qualified to serve in the military, with a few exceptions. The Guard can be called up for duty by the president or by act of Congress. There are currently over 350,000 Guardsmen serving in the country. The National Guard was first established on April 14, 1792 when there were only 10 men under arms and 5 companies of artillery. The first militia Act created 4 battalions of riflemen and 4 squadrons of pistols (later increased to 12 squads and 1 battalion). Militia service was mandatory for males between 21 and 45 years old from any state that maintained such an organization. In 1861, during the American Civil War, because Virginia lacked a regular army, it turned to the National Guard to help provide security for Confederate General Robert E. Lee’s army as it traversed through its territory. By 1862 there were more than 2 million Guardsmen in service across America, ready to fight if called upon. In 1865, following the surrender of slavery in America, many members of the Union military turned their attention towards ending Reconstruction in southern states which had retained control over their government structures and laws but not their white citizens; this led to increased calls for troops within both militias as well as regular forces due to fears that these militias would turn against their own governments should reconstruction fail or worse come about. Since its inception however, Militia has been used primarily as an adjunct tool for law enforcement authorities while also providing training opportunities for officersaining agencies like SWAT teams; both activities have become increasingly popular thanks to advancements technology which has made such raids possible without prior notice or preparations being necessary Militias play an important role throughout our society whether we realize it or not- they provide security at home before events like demonstrations or funerals (in some cases even long before those events!), they offer training opportunities for officersreserving agencies like SWAT teams! And just last week we saw a great example where police used Militias as cover when raiding a house search operation- no shots were fired but plenty of rounds were shot off! This isn't something that happens every day though- so don’t be fooled into thinking that your local militia is some kind of disposable bunch Of Peaceful Citizens Who Just Needs Your Help To Keep Their Neighborhood Safe! No… these guys actually know how to use their weapons and whatnot so you can rest assured knowing they won’t go near anything bad without proper planning
The Lewisville National Guard was first organized on July 20, 1891. The organization was named for General James Lewis, who served as the colonel in charge of the unit at that time. The first unit was composed of thirty-six men and it served as a guard detachment to the Texas state Capitol. On November 15, 1892, the regiment increased in size to one hundred men and it also became part of the Texas National Guard. The regiment saw action in various wars from 1898-1902 and during World War I it played an important role in battle near Paris, Texas. After World War I ended, the national guard units were disbanded but they were reorganized on February 14, 1923 as a battalion of dragoons with headquarters located in Wichita Falls, Texas. After being redesignated brigades on October 1st 1934 they were again redesignated divisions on June 30th 1945 before finally being renamed corps on October 1st 1946.
Lewisville is a small town in the Texas Panhandle that lies on the border of Vernon and Midland Counties. The population was 1,827 at the 2000 census.
