The Lubbock Coast Guard has a rich history dating back to 1924. The first coast guard station in Lubbock was established on the banks of the Rio Grande, and staffed by five men. It was not until 1933 that a second coast guard station was built on the south side of the river. This station served as the primary relief center for area communities during times of drought or floods. In 1951, the Lubbock Coast Guard Station became an all-volunteer organization with a mandate to provide situational awareness and emergency response to coastal emergencies and disasters. In 1992, part of the Texas Department of Public Safety were transferred from Dallas to Lubbock as part of then Governor Rick Perry's efforts to improve coordination between state agencies. As part of this move, Headquarters for Texas' Coastal Zone Management Office relocated from Houston toLubbock headquarters in order to better coordinate coastal zone management activities across state lines. Since its establishment,the Lubbock Coast Guard has played an important role in safeguarding Texans' coastline and waters. From providing assistance during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes, through providing security at ports and seaports,to respond to civil emergencies such as fires or boat thefts -the coast guard has always been there when needed most!

Some of the earliest items in the collection were gifts from civilians and military members. After World War II, the Coast Guard began to rely more on Government funding to keep their fleet afloat. As a result, many gifts from private individuals were passed down through the generations. During the 1970s and 1980s, much attention was paid to breast cancer research. As a result, several donation items related to this issue were added to the museum’s collection. Additionally, donations from people who had lost loved ones due to cancer became popular after this epidemic hit America in 2003. Since then, many other donation items have been added including sporting goods, games and jewelry. Lubbock became a chartered city on November 14, 1912. The population of Lubbock peaked at over 100,000 in 1920 but has since declined to around 50,000 today. Lubbock is located in southwestern Texas on the banks of the Red River near its confluence with the Brazos River. It lies within Austin County and is bordered by Anderson County to the south and east, Comal County to the north and west, Nolan County to the northwest and east. According to The 2010 United States census, Lubbocks population was 56,402 making it 3rd largest city in Austin after Austin and San Antonio. Lubbock’s history goes back more than one hundred years and includes some oftx’s most significant moments including: In 1879 John Trendell founded what would become known as Lubbock with his wife Anna Maria (née Schieffer) on a grant from then-President Andrew Johnson. The town grew rapidly due to its location neartexa’s major markets – San Antonio (to the southwest) and Houston (to the northeast). By 1920 LubbOCK had reached 100,000 residents! However this growth stopped shortly afterwards as World War II began; during that time many citizens enlisted or served in military camps outside of town which limited housing opportunities for locals. Postwar growth resumed however when oil prices went up which led to an influx of new residents into LUBBOCK looking for work during those high times! Today there are still numerous businesses headquartered here including ChevronTexacoPhillips (the largest Texan company), Raytheon Co., UTI Health Care System LP., Continental Resources LLC., Midstream Partners LP., Jardine Communications Incorporated & Livewire Solutions Incorporately all headquartered within walking distance of downtown!
