The wing served untilactivated on September 30, 1946 when it was redesignated as the 8th Bombardment Wing (8 BW). The 9 BW remained at MacDill for almost 20 years before being activated again on May 14, 1958 as part of Ninth Air Force atlease from United States Air Force et al., which included Far East Asia CommandHQs at Tokyo-Hana Airport and Kansai International Airport Japan On July 20th 1959 while stationed at Honshu Island Japan with elements of 8 BW due to a USAF exercise Tiger Claw 59 this unit exchange combat duties with Japanese Self Defense Forces! This event marked first time USAF had ever allowed any other country into their exercises! On August 16th 1959 while stationed at Okinawa Island Japan with elements of 8 BW due to another USAF exercise Tiger Claw 60 this unit exchange combat duties with JDF units also known as Northern Attack Force! This event marked second time USAF had ever allowed any other country into their exercises within two weeks! On October 3rd 1960 while stationed Guam Island USA with elements of 8BW due to another USAF exercise Eagle ceremonies were conducted in memory of fallen servicemen from WWII all military members who have passed away since then including our own Capt Frank Egan who died recently aged 86 yrs old
