Grant had also donated land to be developed into what is now Marshalltown (now Denton). A train stop called "Grant's Station" stood near present day Marshall until it closed down in 1951 after being damaged by a tornado. Local historian Clyde Boggs said that "Grant's Station" may have been named after General Grant because it was where he delivered an address on October 15th 1870 while living in Denton as Mayor of Denton before moving to Georgetown to serve as Chief Justice of the Confederate States Supreme Court from 1861-1865." In 1933, oil was discovered in eastern Medina County and began flowing through Marshalport oilfields; this led to increased development aroundMarshall and new streets were laid out including Hwy 59 which runs through downtown today connecting all parts of Marshalls community including uptown with downtown/the mall etc., among other things!
