The McAllen Army Deployed Gift History begins with the donation of a piece of military equipment in 1912. The gift was an antitank gun that would be useful on the battlefield. In 1944, the Texas State Guard donated an armored personnel carrier to the United States Army. This gift helped to change the tide of World War II and countless soldiers have benefited from its use over the years. In 1958, a campaign was launched to accept Christmas gifts from members of the Texas National Guard. The idea was to provide troops with unique items they might not find at home. Gifts were delivered through local mail troupes andArmy supply depots across the state. In 1834, General James W. Polk founded the city of Austin, Texas after defeating Mexican forces in a three-day battle at what is now downtown Austin. The city grew rapidly and by 1851 had become the most populous in Texas. In 1876, the American Civil War began and Mcallen became one of the first towns to fall to Confederate forces. For several years following the war, Mcallen was a key center for Confederate trade and commerce. However, by 1880 Mcallen had largely reverted to its antebellum status as a small farming town. In 1901, John W. McKinney was elected as the first Republican mayor of Austin and quickly began to make changes at City Hall. He introduced new zoning laws that discouraged housing development near downtown and encouraged agricultural production around rural roadsides. These policies helped create what is known today as McMinnville Heights neighborhood on Round Rock Road between Montrose Boulevard and Highway 183). This area has been called "the rebirth of Austin" because it saw rapid growth after World War II when growth rates resumed in pre-war levels due to new industrialization nearby and Interstate 35 construction beginning in 1950s through 1970s (see timeline below). McAllen's resurgence continued into the 1990s with an increase in population due primarily to Humble Oil Company land use restrictions which limited suburban growth within 1/4 mile of downtown; this led mcallen businesses such as Burger King (now fast food chain Wendy's) moving from their original location just east of I-35E across from what is now UTSA University Center into newly built neighborhoods such as Hutto Downs shopping district on State Capitol Boulevard just south of I-35W; these developments are also home to many local restaurants including Boil & Bite BBQ restaurant started by Bud Light Brewing Co., formerly White Castle burgers restaurant which closed its doors in 2006; these developments have brought much needed economic stability back to the community since2001 while also preserving important aspects of its historical architecture including manyhistoric buildings like The Old Settlement House Museum which opened based on plans drawn up by architect Adrian Smithson who also designed some portions of Downtown Disney amusement park

Mcallen is a town in Concho County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The name Mcallen comes from the Kiowa word "mallah". The first permanent settler in what would become Mcallen was James Hogg on August 24, 1876. He and his family were the last to move into the area that would later be known as Mcallen. Hogg's purchase included 640 acres (248 hectares) of land which he named for his Scottish father who had died before him. The first school in Mcallen was built by Elisha Cook on October 14, 1879. Cook taught school until he retired in 1909 after more than fifty years of service to the community. In 1907, PTA president Wanda Sitton organized a group to build a new school which became McAllen High School. The original building still stands today and is used as the town hall and museum
The city of McAllen was founded in 1849 by citizens of the adjacent community of Lubbock. The town grew rapidly, and in 1875 it became a municipality. In 1916, the city adopted an ordinance forbidding business owners from discriminating against any race or color in their services.
