Mcallen, Texas is a city located in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 18,521 at the 2010 census and is the largest city in Travis County. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Mcallen in 1836. They were� Mexican civilians who had been forced to leave their homes by General Antonio López de Santa Anna's army during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). As a result of its location on one of Mexico's most important border crossings, Mcallen quickly became known as "the Gateway to Chihuahua" due to its role as an important trade center between those two countries. In 1850, John Hogg settled in what is now Mcallen and began trading goods with Texans living along the San Antonio River. In 1856, Hogg built a cabin on his property that still stands today and remains one of McALLEN's most popular tourist attractions; it was also used as a schoolhouse from 1856 until 1968 when it was replaced by McALLEN High School which currently occupies that building. In 1880, J.D. Sullivan opened up his own grocery store at 9th Street and Alamo Road; this shop would later become known as Texaco and play an influential role in helping pioneer TX highway development throughout much of Texas A&M University's (TXAU) Lone Star State campus area – including current day Loop 410 near downtown Austin – before going out of business around 1990stxafamilyowned grocers have continued serving TXAU students through small campuses within Austin since then In 1910, Smedley Butler developed what is now Butler Rancho Seco #2 which included land for development including future UTSA & US Customs Service facilities on what are now Airport Boulevard NE & Interstate 35E across from McAllen Municipal Airport; this ranch served as home to numerous families who continue farming there until recent times (& some structures still remain) . In 1916 both schools were combined into one facility called “Texas Western” under new ownership but again separation occurred soon thereafter with UTSA taking over administration while West Texas A&M College operated athletics programs (now UTEP) . That same year saw construction begin on what would be eventually renamed "McALLEN HIGH SCHOOL" after local businessman/promoter/builder Harry Waddell donated $10,000 towards its erection . Classes finally began inside our building on November 8th 1922 under guidance of Mrs./Dr./Mr.(John E.) Dixon who served as Superintendent for many years prior thereto until her retirement in 2006xusthe present day Administration Building & Sports Complex aka “HAGGIS GARDENS” contains many memorabilia from past administrations incl 2 football fields , original gymnasium House which housed locker rooms & showers x 3 classrooms each plus 1 multipurpose room currently being utilized as office space . Finally our beautiful Main Gymnasium which seats approximately 350 students inside or outside facing onto finely landscaped Grounds includes: Athletic Field House - Home Gym / Club House / Meeting Room / TV Studio / Playground / Pool Hall / Cafeteria + 2 Bartlett Towers !
