The United States Army has a long and illustrious history in Midland, Texas. The city was named after General Sam Houston, who fought in the Mexican-American War and led the Republic of Texas against Mexico. The first U.S. military post in Midland was at Fort Worth Barracks, which opened in 1846. In 1861, when Confederate forces attacked Fort Worth, Texas, the military garrison surrendered and the city became an open battlefield. Midland was quickly fortified and its citizens mobilized to fight back against Confederate aggression. By 1865, Midland had become one of the most important cities within the Confederacy and prospered as a center for munitions production. After the war ended, Midland resumed its role as a commercial center with growth in industries such as oil refineries and cotton plantations. The arrival of World War II caused significant changes to Midland’s economy; during World War II industry shifted from manufacturing to defense production. The city experienced large-scale population growth thanks to wartime immigrants and refugees from Europe and Asia; by 1950Midlander had reached its peak population size of over 100,000 people. However, postwar prosperity turned sour as oil prices declined and job opportunities declined; by 1970Midlanders were living below poverty lines for the first time ever. Despite these challenges, Midland has continued to grow into the 21st century; today it is one of Texas’ fastest-growing metropolitan areas (GSA). One key aspect that has made MidLAND so prosperous is its location within spitting distance of major metropolitan areas such as Dallas/Ft Worth or Houston/Houston Heights—two of America’s most powerful economic engines both geographically and economically speaking. This proximity has created a strong community spirit that encouragesefficiencyandprogressiveness throughoutthe area—a hallmark of successful suburban communities across America? During my visit to MIDLAND last week I observed this same sense of community spirit firsthand: every business storefront window sported an advertising campaign slogan like “We Believe In You” or “You Are Our Community." For many residents there is no question why they are here: their neighborhoods are constantly being upgraded with new infrastructure developments including new schools (like Westlake), more freeways (like Loop 610), more shopping malls (like Gulf Coast Mall) or even some pretty unique projects like Ballpark Village on Kirby Drive? And don't forget about all those golf courses! With property values reaching record levels along much of DowntownMidLAND still manages to maintain some affordability despite all this development.? Army units have been stationed here since 1846 when General Sam Houston's forces fought alongside American forces against Mexican insurgents before turning back south towards Veracruz City

The Midland Army Post was founded on December 12, 1867 by the Texas Legislature. The post was located on San Jacinto Road in Midland and served as a military depot for soldiers coming from all over the state. ThePost also served as a training ground for new officers and enlisted men. On July 1, 1907, the Midland Army Post became an infantry battalion under command of First Lieutenant John A. Hodge. On October 16, 1917, the battalion was redesignated 5th Battalion (Texas Rangers) Infantry Regiment and activated at Camp Bowie outside of San Antonio to serve in World War I as part of the 9th Infantry Division. On November 15, 1918, after being demobilized at Camp Bowie, 5th Battalion (Texas Rangers) Infantry Regiment re-deployed to France where they fought in the Battle of Saint Quentin Canal which ended with the French surrender. In 1927-1928 5th Battalion (Texas Rangers) Infantry Regiment was stationed at Fort Worth Army Air Field during World War II before returning home to Midland on September 20, 1938 when it became 2nd Ranger Battalion under Command Major General Edwin Lamberton who then left for Europe on October 1st Squadron commanded by Colonel Clyde Ransom USAAF also arrived in France that day and started combat operations against Nazi Germany beginning early November 1944 before finally withdrawing from combat on February 8 1945 due to continuous air support provided by United States Eighth Air Force bombers throughout their campaign

In 1860 it became part of Dallas County when Dallas ceded all its land eastward to make way for other cities inDallas County such as Fort Worth and Arlington Heights The first post office in Midland opened on July 21st 1870 named "Wichita" after Wichita Falls which served as its mailing address before being renamed to Midland on October 6th 1880 In 1902 US Steel Corporation built a steel plant in Midland that remains one of America's largest steel plants to this day On November 4th 1960 (the date with which Dallas/Fort Worth metropolitan area became an official city) Houston Oilers owner Bud Selig announced plans to move his team from Houston Astrodome to American Airlines Center which would have required demolishing some homes in DowntownHouston so construction could begin on what would become known as Selig Alley The demolition project failed but midtown Houston got a new stadium called NRG Park which opened in 2005
