The history of the National Guard in Midlothian, Texas dates back to 1881. At that time, Midlothian was a small town with only about 2,000 residents. The town's Mayor and City Council decided to appoint a group of citizens to form a volunteer militia to protect the community from possible violence or crime. The first members of the Midlothian Guard were elected by vote from among the town's residents. The Guard initially consisted of just a few men, but over time it grew into a well-organized force made up of local volunteers and government employees. In 1918, the National Guards became an official part of the United States Army under World War I regulations. This change in status allowed for more soldiers in Midlothian who could be deployed on battle fields as needed rather than having their equipment taken away when they were called home for vacation or other military duty. Midlothian continued to serve its community through various political changes and natural disasters until 1990 when statehood within Texas led to new rules regarding the militia which limited its ability to fight full-time in defense of our state Capitol building (the original site where national guard units had been established). As such, MidLothian Guard units ceased operations effective September 1st, 1990. However, due to their long history and nostalgia some current members have still participated in sporadic patrols/watchdog duties around town since then as an act of homage or support for their predecessors from more than 90 years ago!

The population was 10,829 at the 2010 census. Midlothian is located on I-35W, about 15 miles west of Austin and 30 miles east of Dallas . Midlothian was founded by Scotsmen in 1881 as a station on the Butterfield Overland Mail Line between San Antonio and Fort Worth. In 1892 Midlothian became an independent city when it annexed part of Corydon Township. The City had a population of 54 people when it incorporated. The early years were difficult for Midlothian as ranching and farming were its mainstay economy. However, with industry growing rapidly in the late 19th century oil production began to boom in Midlothian and other nearby towns such as Amarillo and Waco , making these towns major hubs for commerce and industry until World War II . It wasn't until after World War II that industry truly left town; however much still remains off-limits to tourists today due to environmental concerns over fracking operations being conducted within town limits. With agriculture no longer an option for many families, downtown business started to grow again during this time thanks to larger local retailers like Lowe's department store (now Sears) along with more high-end restaurants like Longhorn Steakhouse .
