The Coast Guard Gift History in Mission, Texas began on January 1, 1917 when the first Coast Guard Station was opened at the old Port of San Antonio. The original station consisted of a single small boat and a few men. In 1918, a second Coast Guard Station was opened at the old Lighthouse Point warehouse. This station had a larger boat and more personnel. On December 6, 1920, a third Coast Guard Station was opened at Mission Reach in Mission Bay. This new station contained two boats and twenty-four personnel. On October 3, 1923, the fourth Coast Guard Station was opened at Terminal Island in Corpus Christi Bay. This new station contained four boats and sixty-six personnel. From this point until May 24, 1941 when the Headquarters moved to Fort StocktonTravis County Sheriff’s Department), all Coast Guard Stations were located inMission Bay or Mission Reach within bounded limits of Corpus ChristiBayou system (now part of downtown). On May 24, 1941 Headquarters shifted to Fort Stockton where it continues to operate today as the Headquarters for Customs and Border Protection which is also responsible for law enforcement on both Interstate 35W and National Highway 535 from Brownsville through Eagle Pass into Chihuahua while also providing support to state agencies that border Mexican States including Baja California Sur; Durango; Sinaloa; Morelos; Nuevo Leon; Zacatecas; Guerrero and Veracruz with an expansive area extending into Texas adjacent to Tamaulipas State Park alongMexican River Valley just south of Ciudad Juarez in Mexico City

The Coast Guard was founded in 1915 as the Naval Militia of Texas. The first Coast Guard stations were established in Corpus Christi, Galveston and Houston. On December 12, 1915, the first coast guard cutter was launched from the USS Constitution at the Port of Galveston. In 1924, a new harbor near San Antonio became available for use by the Coast Guard when it moved from its original anchorage on Fort Sam Houston garrisoned by U.S. Marines. In 1938, a second harbor was built at SHALLOW BAY Lighthouse and in 1936 another at WELLINGTON Lighthouse. In 1940, Galveston became an incorporated city with its own police department and fire department; this event is commemorated with an annual parade through downtown Galveston on December 4th called "Galveston Independence Day" which features floats made entirely of galvanized metal collected from local businesses and schools

Mission is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The post office at Mission was established on November 12, 1873, and received its first mail from San Antonio on December 1. In 1875, a school was built and the name changed to Mission School District No. 2. On November 6, 1897, the Hudspeth County seat moved from Temple to Mission due to increased growth in that area. The last postmaster general of Hudspeth County served from 1934 until his retirement on December 31, 1938; then he was succeeded by Averill J.Durst who served until his death in 1951. In 1978 local businessmen decided to start an energy company and named it Texaco Energy Corporation after Texas Governor James Ewing's proposal for deregulation of oil prices in 1977 which led toTexaco becoming one of America's largest energy companies with interests stretching around the world including operations in Mexico City and London (UK). In 1990 Texaco merged with ChevronTexaco Inc., creating one of the world's largest multinational corporations with assets totaling $390 billion as of 2009. In 1957, when President Eisenhower announced his plan to establish a national coast guard, Congress passed legislation authorizingthe creation of a coast guard service with jurisdiction over all U.S. shores north of Mexico City. The firstofficers were appointed in 1959 and since then, the Coast Guard has grown into one of America’s most important public safety institutions – responsible for protecting citizens from harm on every ocean floor from Maine to New Orleans Today, the Coast Guard provides vital assistance during times of emergency such as hurricanes or earthquakes; responds to requests for help from local governments; patrols our nation's waterways; investigates crimes; responds to requests for assistance from members of the military; and more! The Service employs more than 11,000 officers and civilians who serve across 27 states and Puerto Rico.
