The United States Military has been present in Mission, Texas since 1846 when General Sam Houston received orders to establish a fort at the site. The first military post in Mission was Fort Clark, which was established in 1798. The U.S. Marines landed here on July 4th, 1944 during World War II and began occupation of the area until 1946 when they withdrew completely to San Diego. Mission is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas that is the seat of Hardin County. The population was 2,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and is located on the east side ofplexus Dallas-Fort Worth, just south of I-635 and north of State Highway 183. The name "Mission" comes from Spanish Mission San Antonio de Padua which was founded by Franciscans in 1692 as a friary for missions in present day Tarrant County and Hardin County. The original mission church, La Purísima Concepcion, still stands today on Austin's main commercial street corner (Montgomery Street) opposite UTSA Campus; it was built between 1784 and 1785 to serve as a cathedral for the Mexican province of Adobe Valley across from what is now downtown Austin. A second Missions period began with Rancho Santiago de Monterey (1836) and ended with Rancho El Cerrito de las Flores (1910). Most likely because ranching became more important after railroads arrived, many Mission properties were sold or leased to other farmers during this time frame including much land within currentDallas/Forth Worth boundaries including University Park which now encompasses most if not all of Mission Viejo Cemetery southwest of Interstate 10 along I-30/I-35W to Brownsville Road thence northwesterly along Brownsville Rd., then easterly through Arlington Heights before terminating at FM 1960 near Salt Lake City Airport; later some portions were leased back to ranching families until included within suburban Richardson proper when annexation occurred in 1907 In 1846 an act called An Act Respecting Indian Affairs createdHardin County out of parts of Tarrant and Medina Counties - one century later its name would change again due to agitation over land grants made by President James Kenedy - although there had been previous efforts by missionaries to establish missions here since 1827 such as Father José De la Candelaria who arrived in October 1829 with twentyisionaries under his command from Mexico City An act passed by Congress on November 5th, 1830 called for Jesse Fenton To Come Up With A Plan To Build A road From Wichita Falls To Eureka Springs In This Territory And He Declared That If This Road Could Be Completed By January 1st Of The Year Next After His Arrival His Company Would Make A Donation Of $40000 For The Construction Of A Chapel Which Was Built At This Location As Soon As Possible So Citizens OfThis Territory Could Meet Him There And Get Baptismal Instructions...It Is Also speculated That This chapel may have been dedicated To Our Lady Of Guadalupe In honor Of Santa Anna Who Died In 1837 & Many presume That chapel Actually Became Known As The First Methodist Episcopal Church Due thereto missionaries soon established themselves at various locations throughout What We Now Call Texas & Some Even Go Back Into Prehistoric Times When They Started Allocating Land For Missions Near Ft Worth’s Inner Harbor Today’s Arlington

Mission was founded in 1836 by Juan Bautista Martinez as a mission in the present-day state of Texas. The title of " Mission" comes from the Spanish word "mision," meaning an errand or task required for religious reasons. Martinez and his fellow missionaries, Pedro Empeñados and Francisco de la Garza, were forced to leave their families behind and undertake an arduous journey from Santa Fe, New Mexico, on July 24, 1835. They arrived at what is now Fort Worth on November 1 of that year. The original mission buildings were used as storage facilities for goods brought overland by travelers on the Overland Telegraph Line. In 1881, the Missions School was built adjacent to the old mission site to provide education for native students who had not been able to attend school due to lack of funds or space. After years of use and neglect, the school closed in 1966 due to budget cuts advocated by then-Governor Donnellan Lamar. In 1984, Governor Ann Richards designated Mission Texas State Historical Park which included land within its boundaries that had once been part of the missions themselves. The park includes a museum with exhibits about Mexican history and culture; a gardens; a plaza with monuments honoring different missionary leaders; visitor centers; and several trails leading into nearby Missions National Park.
