Mount Pleasant is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, located on the banks of the Trinity River. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. Mount Pleasant is part of the Tyler-Fort Worth-Eagle Pass Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to find and explore Mount pleasant were surveyors associated with Captain James Cook during his circumnavigation of Australia in 1770. In 1803, John Tilton surveyed and named the town after General David Porter's home, Mount Pleasant Hill in New Hampshire. In 1836, George Smedley built a ferry across the Trinity River at present-day Mount Pleasant for transportation between Fort Worth and Eagle Pass. During this time, there was also a cotton gin and mill here. A post office was established here in 1839; it was discontinued in 1862 because of competition from Ft Worth's new mail service. Mt Pleasant experienced some growth during Reconstruction following the American Civil War; however, it declined again following Reconstruction until 1910 when it regained its prosperity as an agricultural center with large cotton plantations dating back to early Spanish times near present day Live Oak Road/Bryan Boulevard (now US 290). The decline of these plantations led to increased development around Live Oak Road/Bryan Boulevard as well as other aspects of Mtpleasant such as modern shopping malls, auto dealership etc., which has been slowly but surely transforming this sleepy little town into one of greater economic significance within Hudspeth County overall since 2000s when many jobs have arisen out local businesses due to growth along IH 10 corridor that stretches from Tyler all the way down to Eagle Pass Rd./ Live Oak Rd./Baytown Blvd./Bryan Blvd.- making Mtpleasant an ideal place for live out your dream job or start your own business!

By 1840, he had built five houses which stood today on Main Street between Bowie Boulevard and Pecan Road (now US 183). Hogg's properties were Hellman Road to the east and Polk Street to the west of present day Main Street. In 1872, when Travis County was created from parts of Hudspeth County, Mountpleasant became its county seat. It remained so until 1907 when Burnet County was created and Mtpleasant became part of that new countyseat
