Murphy, Texas is known as the coffee capital of the world. The town was founded in 1887 by John H. Murphy and his brother-in-law, J.B. Weir, and has been a center for coffee production ever since. The first commercial coffee beans were roasted here in 1892. Today, Murphy's wide variety of artisanal coffees – from dark roast to light roast – are some of the most popular in the country. The history of Murphy Coffee begins with John H. Murphy himself. After arriving in Texas from Ireland in 1887, Murphy set up shop here and quickly became one of the leading producers of ground coffee in the area. In 1928, he sold his business to JBS Roasting Company for $1 million dollars ($102 million today). At JBS Roasting Company, John H. Murphy continued to produce world-famous artisanal coffee until his death in 1951 at age 83 years old. His legacy will continue on through their successors at JBS Coffee Corporation – which is now part of Starbucks Corporation – who continue to produce high quality cups of delicious java every day!

Murphy, Texas is a small town in the southern part of Texas. The population was just over 1,000 at the 2010 census. It is located on the eastern edge of Gregg County and has a history dating back to 1881. Murphy was named after General John Murphy who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1887, Murphy had its first post office, which served as a stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. The first townsite in Murphy was called "Morganton," but it changed hands several times before settling on a site near present day Covecreek Road. The community's name originated from a Shawnee Indian chief known as "Morgantown." The first post office in Murphy opened in 1887 and operated until 1951. At that time, it became part of Gregg County and was renamed Murphy. One of the early businesses in Murphy was an agricultural store owned by Wm Hargrave and Bros., which still operates today as Hargrave's Store & Cafe. Other early businesses included two blacksmiths - one by Prentice Blacksmiths and one by William Blackmore - who also built the first schoolhouse in town (now ruins). Today, there are only a few remaining buildings from those days including the original courthouse and jail building; both were destroyed by fire in 1957. A natural gas well been drilled near present day Covecreek Road led to increased production for local farmers during World War II; however, whenproduction stopped due to enemy action, many families lost their livelihoods that depended on these resources . One family mentioned above retains extensive farm land around Covecreek Road which they have used for crop rotation ever since WWII ended . The current mayor of Murphy is Don Ferguson with his term expiring at year’s end

Murphy, Texas is a small town located in the Midland region of Texas. The town was founded in 1881 by John Murphy and his wife, Mary. The Murphys were farmers and later became ranchers. In 1906, the town was incorporated and renamed Murphy after World War I veteran James H. Murphy. The post office remained in operation until it closed in 1963. The first school in Murphy was built on the site of what is now the Walmart Supercenter. It opened in 1907 and served as a middle school for children from all around the area. After being closed for many years, it reopened as a high school in 1984. Today, Murphy has three schools: one public, one private (Montgomery County), and one charter (Murphy High School). The town also has five churches including two Baptist churches, one Methodist church, and one Catholic church; as well as a library with more than twenty-five thousand items from books to videos to software." The economy of Murphy is based primarily on agriculture which continues to be its primary industry today. Farming produces hay, cottonseed oil/butter/, peanuts/peanut butter/, corn/cornmeal/, potatoes/(soup mix/potato salad)/potatoes/, applesauce/, onions/onions/, and garlic/.
