When the Murphy Coast Guard Station was established in 1917, it was one of the first Coast Guard stations in Texas. The station was originally located on the Barker River and is now located on US-19 in south Murphy. In 1922, the station became a lighthouse and then a harbor guard post. In 1951, the station became a coast guard cutter when it was transferred from Corpus Christi to Murphy. The cutter served as a patrol boat for coastal waters until 1969 when it was replaced by the present coast guard vessel, EP-1. In 1984, EP-1 was donated to the state of Texas and has been used as an Instructional Center for Fisheries Science atTx State University in San Antonio since 1991. In 2007, EP-1 underwent restoration that included updating its engines and systems. It reopened to the public on May 10th with new paint job and updated equipment including lifejackets for all crewmembers. Murphy's coast guard gift history goes back more than 100 years! On July 1st 1907, local citizens voted to establish their own Coast Guard Station at present day Murphy after watching Canadian ships navigate through their town's channel during summertime affairs (known then as " breeze"). This early effort led to future success as both local residents and federal officials recognized that this small town had potential as an important staging ground for military activity along our southern border - something which would become increasingly evident during World War II when defense resources were diverted elsewhere due to hostilities overseas. The first permanent building erected on shoreline near where US 19 currently sits were two wooden huts converted into barracks by members of Local 496 of Santa Fe Railway Company who also helped build Fort Worth's Harlingen Lighthouse in 1915. A Type C4 engine house (converted from a schooner) USS Constitution Museum can still be seen attached directly across channel from these barracks housing some interesting artifacts dating back to WWI era such as old cannons salvaged from Mexican battleships sunk off Texas Beach during those days! As tensions mounted between America’s allies Mexico and Canada following America’s entry into WWII (the largest peacetime mobilization in American history), Naval Intelligence reported increased activity around oil refineries guarded by Mexican troops offshore – activities which made perfect sense given our location sandwiched between 2 highly militarized countries on our southern border! However despite reports of potential enemy forces ashore or surrounding us daily; nothing ever came of this navy intel information…until September 11th 2001!!! And suddenly we were thrust right back into that wartime memory because not only did entire neighborhoods fall victim to 9/11 primary targets within mere blocks OF our Coast Guard Station but so too did many other structures within minutes ensuing intense searches & seizures conducted by law enforcement officers throughout downtown area….and we haven’t stopped yet folks…..not even close! Although things have slowed down somewhat since 9/11; there is no doubt that COAST GUARD STATION Murphys continues To Serve Our Community proudly today!!!

Murphy is a small town in Price County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,342 at the 2010 census. It is the location of the now-defunct Murphy Oil Refinery. The town was founded in 1907 by John Murphy and his wife Meta Murphy. The first oil well in Price County was drilled by John Murphy in 1907. The well caused much excitement because it cut oil prices down by 50%. In 1909, Meta Murphy became the first female to be elected as a citizen of Price County. She served two terms and then died suddenly after winning an election to fill her unexpired term. In 1911, George Washingburn organized what would become known as the "Murphy Boys." They were men who had been born or raised in eastern Price County and wanted to help their fellow citizens there too. They started a store, which still operates today under the name GFW Plaza Shopping Center on FM 954 east of town. The Murphys left Murphy for good in 1922 when they moved away from their farmstead for fear that it would be taken away during the Great Depression. They never returned to live there again but continue to visit every year on Father's Day weekend until today!

The name Murphy comes from the Irish word "murphy" meaning "to make an end." The McGee family first settled in Murphy in 1881. They were both farmers and cattle ranchers. In 1906, they started a grocery store and began to sell ice cream and other soft drinks. In 1916, they built their first schoolhouse. By 1920, they had six churches and seventy-eight businesses. In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Murphy was one of the most important cattle towns in Tarrant County due to its location near Round Rock Lake and its access to water supplies. The post office at Murphy opened on October 15, 1885. It was renamed Jay on May 2, 1907 after James Walford McGee who donated land for it. The first resident postmaster was Cephus Hildebrandt who served from 1886 until his death in 1912. From 1896 until 1918, it was operated by Grover Cleveland Higgins who also served as mayor of Murphy from 1911 until 1913 and 1914 until his death in 1915 In 1916, Mrs.-Gertrude Akeley became the first female mail carrier when she started service from her home in Murphysboro with a truck entitled "Akeley's Own". She continued to serve throughout World War I before retiring in 1919 In 1922–23, construction began on what is now known as State Highway 111 (SH 111). This highway connected Texarkana to Dallas through Murphy while also providing transportation opportunities for local residents including those living near Round Rock Lake After statehood in 1901*, Murphy became an independent city with its own government under Mayor John Paulding *Murphy incorporation took place on July 5th 1902 with a total population of 514
