Murphy, Texas is a small town in the north-central part of Texas. The population was 1,887 at the 2000 census. It is the seat of Grant County. The first gun that Murphy ever owned was an old Colt revolver given to him by his father. He kept it until he passed away in 2006. The second gun that Murphy ever owned was a Remington 870 shotgun which he bought brand new from an ammunition dealer in 1997. He still uses it today as a hunting and protection weapon.

Murphy, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 1,489 at the 2000 census. The first settlers in Murphy were farmers and their families who arrived in 1851. By 1870, Murphy had become a stagecoach stop on the old Central Texas Railway. In 1876, John W. Murphy became the first miller in Murphy when he built the first water wheel in what is now downtown Murphy. Today, Murphy is still a small town with a population of 1,489 residents as of the 2010 census. The community has experienced many changes over the years including two tornado touchdowns in 1951 and 1963; however, its biggest asset has always been its friendly people who have helped make it one of the most welcoming communities on Earth. Most of Murphys history comes from John W. Murphy Sr., who built up what is now downtown Murphy during his time as miller and postmaster for the community from 1906 to 1957. He also started or co-founded several businesses including First National Bank (1911), The Post Office (1927), The Dairy Queen (1945), and The Downtown Grill & Pub (1980). His legacy lives on through his children John W., Jr., Donnie J., Linda B., and Kathy K., all of whom are active members of local business communities and philanthropists within their own right today.
